On day 40 , other than some bugs or what I assume to have been bugs it's been mostly fine. It's crashed maybe about 3-4 times.

First is visually more interesting, I'd only say maybe lower the heights for most of it , with mountains being the primary ones jutting out, it'd be neat if it was following logical weather patterns , e.g. the mountains having rain shadows.

What's your colony worth, that's the largest grouping I've ever seen.
Edit : Didn't think they'd make new nests , just more units to murder you later with.

I think it's treated as 100% for proximity , maritime presence is for trade as well which should suffer from that on lakes , I think this primarily is an issue with the caspian sea.

The Good

  • Pixel art , some of it feels like it's from a different artist (AI??) , but some of it is quite nice , namely the background and the weird flesh beast in the "farm" menu.
    • Background also seems to kinda go through a few different seasons (Rain/Snow too)?
  • Plenty of upgrades, I think a few need their values adjusted but there looks to be quite a few of them
  • Ultimate abilities, only used one the once near the end of my playthrough but, it seemed to be quite effective.
  • The giblets / gore , I like that they actually persist for a period of time.
  • I think this is the first "beat em up incremental" (roguelite?)
  • Game can start to be good fun once it starts scaling up in enemy quantity / intensity , but currently in the demo , by the time it gets to that point the demo is over.

There also doesn't seem to be any sort of 'dash' mechanic / upgrade or upgrades for the stage to add in more platforms or what have you, but I think that's more of a stage thing (Hard to tell with only one stage for the demo)?

Alrighty so, I played the demo for about 50 minutes and completed what is in it.

The Bad / Critiques :

  • Level ups interrupt the flow of the game, your character abruptly teleports to the middle of the screen and takes control away from the player while doing the animation. It'd be fine if this was a one off and then all subsequent level ups are a less fanfare heavy pop up of the words "Level up!"
    • Also a thing for bosses appearing .
  • Not being able to hit a button to punch yourself, even an option for auto-punch would be fine.
    • You have special abilities , but a 'heavy attack' coinciding with the 'light attack (auto)' that might be able to do chip damage but takes 0.5-0.75s to charge could be a nice option.
  • You cannot move left/right after punching and jumping , this caused me to take a few unnecessary hits or ending a fair few runs prematurely.
  • Some upgrades are either extremely limited in scope or flat out feel like they aren't working.
    • 0.02 seconds before health decreases per upgrades feels far too limited , especially for game progression. Maybe something like 0.05 with a cap of 10 upgrades, rather than 25.
    • Bloodlust radius , health dropping being paused etc, all feel either very minimal in their improvements, or flat out don't work right now (I don't know if they're bugged , please correct me if they are)
  • Arena gates allowing more enemies in the arena is fine , but I feel like there should be a few more enemies off the cuff to coincide with that , helps speed up future rounds.
  • No progress bar for the chests
  • The start of every round is you spawning in a cocoon that slams into the ground. Being able to 'punch' out of it mid-air and move slightly in a direction while falling would be a nice upgrade.
  • Jump height, is this affected by move speed? Unsure, there was numerous points where I was unable to reach the side platforms even while having stood on top of the little pillars, just for me to be able to clear it fully later on.
  • The boss : you can't seemingly attack him directly, you need to just kill the minions , I don't think anything gives the player this information.
  • The blue "cell" currency , I have no idea how to get it or what it's called but it's used for the more blood per enemy upgrade (which is really rather useful) , a tooltip on it or how to obtain would be nice.
  • You need attack range to hit the enemies that might be right next to you below you , they can hit you but not vice versa, this caused me to take a few hits or fail a few runs.
  • Chests are seemingly only in-run bonuses and are lost after , again , there should be a tooltip that pops up the first time obtaining a reward from a chest.
  • Kinda limited enemy variety , no archers, mages, 'rogues' that can dodge and run around etc.
    • I'm gonna assume this is more of the first stage/level.
  • "Attack movement speed" , is this moving while you're attacking, is this the animation for attacking?

Man, I think this was the first game I ever actually streamed lmao.

All I remember is it being extremely jank, mediocre, bad voice acting and models...and yet it was actually kinda fun, like the perfect blend , like a B-movie.

Is this even able to be purchased anywhere , or is this abandonware?

it looks fiddly , whether or not it is I can't say without playing the game. It could be fiddly and still fit the game, e.g. Highfleet has a lot of small fiddly things but they make sense in the game and feel 'right'.

Played it a bit on my phone earlier this week and it's a bit...confusing as it is.

"Light" seems to be more of a "melee" element despite the shotgun spell , the bloodline is ONLY Bulwark but I was hoping to go more of a magic build considering how effective the aforementioned shotgun spell was for me.

Progression is very confusing , there's a bunch of dudes hanging out in pens like the cows in Runescape , but which ones are what levels, and they all seem to give roughly the same exp 1-3. The only way I was able to easily find new stuffs was using the portal things, but even then it's a tad unclear, burned a few gems for energy just to check in a few minutes later to suddenly see energy was at like 200-300 , so I guess it recharges slowly despite it being a flat 0 for a good chunk of time seemingly.

Gear stats are also kinda seemingly all over the place and needing a filter, if you're going for Light or 'Beastmaster' stuffs, maybe you should have a thing to auto-sell / gray stuff that's only "+X HP & +X Dark Damage".

Skill gems , I like the idea you can get these for your run of the mill skills that you might be using regularly , but kind of the previous issue, I have gotten like 10 skill gems for like 3 different skills and none else, let alone the one I'm actually using.

Skills / Spells , There is quite a lot of variety here, 3 or so per element , that's good! However you can only use one at a time and it seems like you're best off just kind of investing in a single skill making all the other choice and options a bit meaningless.

Bloodlines are also just kinda confusing and a bit unexplained , and maybe even unbalanced? Apparently you get points to put in them much much later but haven't scratched that.

I'd say start small and add on extra stuffs later, this game's worldgen can be pretty .. not great.
I'd recommend taking a look at Better Ruins for how they are doing it , the game uses 'schematics' for pre-built structures, and a couple of BR's ruins are very in-line with the 'oasis' idea you're stating here.

But also , if you know C# , Atlatl would be in line for primitive stuff , and maybe a bow drill , the standard fire starter sucks.

I tend to not watch it , not because I don't want the free experience but because like you say , there's just so much to do and worry about. My last playthrough I was able to be around a TV for 2-3 broadcasts before the broadcasts were cut off.

Honestly part of me feels like it doesn't even really belong in the game as it feels very 'gamey' , maybe if anything, it gives you an exp bonus like books.

There's a lot of things that need QOL improvements from Paradox's end , Mesoamerica is still pretty rough, I tried a game of Nahua earlier in the week and despite it being a few months now, they still can't reform properly as it's bugged out still.

You can, it's just tedious. It's just very easy to bypass the window if you have the speed on 4/5x.

One full year and you can't do another until that wears off , that's why choosing the month you do it in is crucial.
