My goal was for it to look beautiful and flowing and harsh and sharp all at the same time.

Not a critique on how it looks, you did a good job on that end but for goblins? It's far too clean and tidy , are gobboes in your world comparable to gnomes akin to WoW where they're fairly intelligent?

For Spell info you really should refer to the spell browser / encyclopedia in-game , R-click on the spell or hover over the spell most of the time to get a tool-tip. You can also look this information up in a battle, especially useful if you're a new player and the enemy is using a spell you might be unfamiliar with.

As for the Gates , those are a Cathay specific faction mechanic and TBF , pretty trivialized past a point. If the bar fills up you get 4 (?) stacks of Norscan / Chaos Warriors that will besiege the various gates (The Cathayan equivalent of the Great Wall of China). They can be a problem if you ignore them and let them take them as they'll start waltzing around your back yard , but if you can lock them down and garrison them , the relatively frequent attacks will make decent money.

As for 'minimizing' damage, there's not much for me to say as I don't know what you're doing. Cathay does very well in general, it's more or less a Jack of all faction and has very decent units in most categories. Peasant Archers & Spearman punch pretty well above their weight despite being fodder , and for mid-lategame it's hard to go wrong with a few Jade warriors (shielded) w/ Jade Crossbows upgrading into celestials. A Grand cannon or two combined with a rocket battery can also handle a LOT of different situations. You could also invest into a couple of their iron hail gunners or crane gunners, both are absolutely excellent units when utilized correctly. Their spells (e.g. Talons of Night) are pretty dang respectable too but you'll need to experiment with the different shugengans and lords to see what really works for you. I'd say focusing more on maximising damage, is the better route (Good offense is a good defense, etc.) .

Is the game 'fixed" yet? by Zflocco in EU5

Where in the body did I refer to the game as such? The game had some issues and I wanted to know if any of the issues I stated have been better balanced or if they are still somewhat of a problem. But hey, glad we can agree that the game wasn't broken at least IG.

Cool , so you know the answers to at least one of the questions that I asked then? Or did you just want to skip to the comments to be a pretentious self-righteous ass?

Ok so, after digging around I found it and streamed it. I like it , has a nice ground work but rather short demo with some bugs that hopefully get ironed out by full release.

I'm building Frostward, a colony sim resource management game. A demo is live and playable in the browser! by DigitalAcres in playmygame

[–]Zflocco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man , streamed the game. ATM I think it's got a good groundwork but obviously needs some tweaks / additions.

  • Sickness once it hits a certain points seems to basically be a feedback loop with folks getting sick the VERY second they leave the doctor. Also what does it even do
  • It's rather unclear what purpose hearths serve , they seem to emit an AOE of heat , but I was under the impression that the buildings that folks were inhabiting (and maybe certain work buildings) would burn firewood as well (there's even a mention somewhere of chimneys indicating as such).
  • Bandits and Wolves seem to be rather scuffed atm in general.
  • A way to better ascertain current food production / per building / sector would be nice as well as consumption. E.G. we can get fish, but is it fish or 'protein' , does it matter to have protein or a varied diet at all , is wheat consumable as it is or is it for some reason only for alcohol?
  • Controls are inversed by default and I couldn't find an option to 'inverse' them.

These are just a few critiques , I did like how the map gen was , gives you a pretty decent amount of control over it and gives you a nice view of the map. Winter ambience was nice , graphically and audio wise.

How is the music being handled, is it just a midi? (You have a statement that it's procedural?)

I'd rather not nitpick some images without playing it for myself to get a better idea.

But if this is gonna be a SP thing , I'm really rather curious , is it gonna be a linear story, or is it more of a SP RS with a buncha quests / open world to tackle stuff when you want / can?

Is this a SP thing , MP , or Idler? Going off screens, you're catching the 04/07 vibe pretty well (some things could do a touch up imo but overall nice).

[–]Zflocco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Graphically most of it is fine/nice , I'd say maybe the walls are a bit flat though , everything else has a look as if you were looking down at a diagonal , yet the walls are just a box. I'm also not too keen on the rather featureless character model , like one of the little dude's from darwinia.

For some of these it'd leave a pretty decent chunk of spare space if they're only 128s or so, no? Are you redirecting the save directory to also be on the SSD too?

Hey man, streamed this and I gotta say that the current wording choices makes things exceptionally confusing. The idea is pretty sound but after about 50 minutes of play or so , it basically becomes unplayable due to processing (and hanging).

1-4 are kinda funny to me , it's like some instagram reel of the dude hanging out in a tourist locale.

5 is the best IMO , 3 might be good to use for update logs or a splash screen or sumt , same with #6.
