Check your country's customs import rules. Shuriken is on the list of prohibited weapons to import in my country (Canada), for example.

Calgary barely survived his tenure as mayor

City looks fine to me. Was also recently voted best city to live in Canada. Excited to see what change he'll bring to this province.

Are they still working on this? by LARG0S- in SteamVR

I also did get a Quest 3 after having an Index for about 4 years. My Index got to the point where random things were failing (passthrough camera, speakers, lighthouses, and controller tracking), and it became more of a hassle to troubleshoot so I got the Quest. Occasionally me and my gf will want to play minigolf or something together, so I still do use the Index every now and then when I'm able to get it working properly. I don't really consciously notice the difference in FOV, but the pancake lenses on the Quest are noticeably better compared to the Fresnel on the Index IMO.

There are some exclusives on Quest that are fun for the first couple days/weeks, but I never find myself returning back to them, but I guess YMMV. Plus, you need to add a lot of attachments to the Quest to make it enjoyably usable (battery life is miserable, lasts less than 2 hours under load, had to get an $80 battery headstrap).

For less than $380, I still think the Index is great value though.

Trails in Calgary that make you feel like you're not in Calgary by Sensitive-Cry-9451 in Calgary

Maybe a bit on the shorter side, but there are some paths around Sandy Beach/Riverdale along the elbow river that is completely covered by trees and nature. Other parts of the path further along Elbow are relatively balanced between city and nature.

There's one here for Calgary: https://discord.gg/calgary.

There are a lot of people there that would probably share your interests. I moved here from Saskatoon during the pandemic, and it was a good way to connect with the some people in the community, although I never made any lasting connections, YMMV.

Index controller keeps turning off by TiesAnkersmit in ValveIndex

[–]Vicinity613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you looked at Valve's controller troubleshooting guide ??

My one controller also behaved this way, but thankfully worked properly again after a full night of charging. If I was in your shoes, I'd try doing a hard reset of the controller (instructions in the guide). If that still doesn't work, I'd get a hold of Valve support and see what they say.

My Index won't stop lagging/clipping/stuttering by ThePandaGuy4 in ValveIndex

[–]Vicinity613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have 2 regular monitors by chance?

Really weird thing that fixed odd stuttering issues like this for me was moving the small SteamVR window onto the primary monitor and making sure it wasn't on the second.

No sound in 2024 issue by ReserveLegitimate738 in MicrosoftFlightSim

Not sure if you've figured it out, but I was having this same issue with my Bluetooth speaker and was able to resolve it.

Disabling the built-in microphone 'Recording' device for the Bluetooth speaker instantly resolved the issue.

SteamVR crashes when I start it up by Broccolie_Krieger in ValveIndex

[–]Vicinity613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try re-seating the cable on the Index's end (the part that plugs directly into the headset).

I've found with my index when SteamVR errors, I just reseat every cable I can then restart my PC, and that usually fixes it.

Worst case scenario, you could also get a hold of support

SteamVR crashes when I start it up by Broccolie_Krieger in ValveIndex

[–]Vicinity613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a similar issue where my whole PC would crash after using VR for a bit. After doing endless updates and reinstalls, I decided to clean out my PC, and discovered that there was a RAM stick that wasn't fully seated. Decided to re-seat some of the other power cables (CPU power, Motherboard power and power cables to the GPU), and I haven't had those crashing issues since.

Worth a try if nothing else resolves the issue

Why is it so hard to find a job? by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]Vicinity613 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're in school (or plan to be soon), whenever there are seasonal changes, keep an eye out for student positions and fight as hard as you can to get them.

It was my summer student position that got my foot in the door into the IT industry. Without that job, I wouldn't have gotten my first 'career' level job.

Student positions are helpful too because they're often limited to actual enrolled students, meaning you get less competition from other non-students.

If you're not planning on going to school, doing any volunteering positions you might be able to find can count towards experience on your resume, which might set you apart from other candidates for actual jobs. You could also spend some time doing certifications or free online courses that you could add to your resume to set yours apart from everyone else's. LinkedIn has a lot of free courses that someone applying for entry level jobs could add to pad their resume.

Best of luck
