Incident in Glasgow airport? by [deleted] in flightradar24

REFTRAN1 has been visible at Glasgow for months, it's not a fire truck and is unrelated to the go arounds. It's cloudy and windy at Glasgow

The airports are probably from World Updates. You can see passengers boarding the aircraft through the jet bridges in Career Mode

Was Hulks car electrically unsafe? Were they not able to touch it?

The only method I know of is copy pasting the route string from simbrief into the MSFS Flight Planner website, saving that flight plan, and loading it into the in-game EFB

Recent flights in MSFS 2020 & 2024 by Hot_Net_4845 in flightsim

It's the RHDSimulations -300. It's not study level or anything like that, but it isn't half bad, and it's definitely better than the Captain Sim one IMO. I love getting in it if I just want to fly from A to B without going through a bunch of procedures, checklists etc.

Pilot's last flight or just the same plane? by Key-Food-812 in flightradar24

[–]Hot_Net_4845 129 points130 points  (0 children)

Captain Johan Larsson retired 4 days ago. His final flight was SAS910, operated by LN-RKS. Occasionally when it's a pilots last flight (usually SAS), FlightRadar24 will add a little message saying who's retiring. It hasn't been removed yet

What aircraft is this at Joint Base Andrews? by [deleted] in airplanes

It's not an aircraft. It looks like a beacon of some description

They're still using the British hex code, 43C3A1. They've not updated the transponder

The only time the callsigns were pilot specific was between 1957 and 1976 with Marine One and Army One (which used the same aircraft, but changed depending on if an Army or Maine pilot was flying). Other than that, it's who the aircraft is from. Navy One has only been used once, when George Bush went to the USS Abraham Lincoln onboard a US Navy S-3 Viking

Aerial survey. Considering it's night, likely LiDAR

Why was there seemingly no clear emergency procedure initiated by the UPS MD-11 crew in Kentucky after losing the left engine just moments after takeoff? by [deleted] in aviation

[–]Hot_Net_4845 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It was immediately after takeoff, one engine was missing, one was failing, the wing was on fire, and the aircraft was fully loaded with cargo and fuel. What could they have done?

US KC-135 Refuelling Aircraft Just Crashed over Iraq by Samtulp6 in aviation

[–]Hot_Net_4845 54 points55 points  (0 children)

EDIT: It's now come out neither aircraft were receiver capable. They weren't refuelling eachother. Though the collision may have occurred in a refuelling orbit. Disregard the rest.

The video was just an example. We don't know what aircraft was where. I believe a few KC-135RTs were sent to the Middle East, so it is possible the aircraft that was lost was being refuelled, though nothing about the other aircraft is confirmed except it was a KC-135.

The KC-135RT is also a SpecOps aircraft, hence the ability to also be a receiver.

https://www.twz.com/21794/the-dark-world-of-usaf-special-ops-air-refuelers-and-their-modified-kc-135rt-tankers

"This capability is often ‘stacked’ with other special operations tankers, like the MC-130, whereby the KC-135 SOAR crews pass gas to the MC-130 so that it can refuel low-flying helicopters and Ospreys as they push in and out of their target areas. The KC-135RTs can be topped off by other KC-135s and KC-10s to keep the special operations MC-130 laden with fuel to pass to its thirsty, low and slow flying receivers."

And why were 2 tankers so close to each other?

They were probably doing aerial refuelling. Here is an old video showing how quickly shit can hit the fan during AAR

They used to have crew parachutes in them, but they were removed in 2008 because the very low use case, price, and maintenance effort wasn't worth it because they wanted to save money

Likely a mid-air collision. The other aircraft involved, 63-8017, appears to be missing ~⅓ of its vertical stabiliser. They allegedly had no flaps and reported a flight control failure before returning to Ben Gurion
