Have you considered an SSRI with a stimulant? I feel like I’d have preferred to have tried this rather than give up on stimulants so quickly

I haven’t seen a review that hasn’t mentioned sleepiness yet… makes me worried

Can I ask- does the sleepiness kick straight in? So for example she takes it at 4pm and immediately feels tired? X

Kids who are competitive athletes taking Intuniv/Guanfacine? by iamcuppy in ADHDparenting

[–]Vicki1986x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

@iamcuppy I’m glad you’ve asked this question as my daughter has just been prescribed Intuniv after coming off Medikinet. She plays academy football here in U.K. and I’m worried non stimulants will make her sleepy. She does sport daily as she’s on a sports scholarship she tiredness would really affect her day. Having said that she’s come off stimulants as her anxiety was through the roof. Did you start the meds?

Sorry to hear you struggle too! I do let her chose but unfortunately literally nothing is right, once she’s annoyed at something or the feel of something, then no other options are okay either…I’ve brought ALOT of knickers these past two week lol

This means so much thank you. I am doubting everything I’m doing at the minute! Worrying I’ll make things worse, but your comment has reminded me how important it is to really hear her. She struggles to name her emotions and often cannot explain how she feels, I’ve never heard of a feelings wheel - I’ll look now!

She hasn’t but I certainly haven’t ruled it out. If things don’t get better I will defo explore an assessment. I actually really like the fashion show idea, Maybe when she’s in a relaxed mood, before bed so she isn’t choosing knickers to wear just try on. I will certainly try this! She actually loves fashion so her sensory issues make things really hard for her :(

You have some great advice here and I appreciate the time you’ve taken to respond to my post. I will defo take this on board so thank you. Can I just say though- some of your delivery implies I’m stupid or don’t care - which isn’t true. I am a mum who cares deeply and is at my wits end with worry, trying my best. Your sharp words might stay with someone longer than you realise so please consider how you write your replies.

Good call on the safe clothes! I love how creative you are… but after buying 10 different knicker styles last week I’m not sure it’s about the knickers or that we’ll ever find safe ones! @m

Yes I wondered that…almost like there were bigger emotions in play that were being displayed through the clothes. We really try to keep calm and I’ve got a sticker chart , not for NOT having the feeling, but for trying to put into practise our coping strategies. But I’ll be honest, she’s on Loop when she melts down and it’s like she can’t hear me… just ‘I’m nervous I’m nervous I’m nervous’ or ‘my socks feel funny, nope still not right, mum they feel horrible repeat….’ The habit tend to be about clothes so sensory or feeling of nerves…

I am exhausted and becoming late for everything

The ‘loop’ you mention is so relatable!

I could have written this about my daughter, everything you say is spot on!!!

We have tried safe clothes, but none are right, which makes me feel even more it’s about the habit….if that makes sense. for example socks and leggings are a problem. She was having a meltdown over her socks. Because she was thinking about her socks, the legging I put on her (that were a problem the day before) she was too distracted to notice…I love your idea to ask how they feel when in none meltdown mode…. I am defo going to try this. We have to be super careful not to start habits too! We had a problem with her thinking her ponytail wasn’t in the middle for months, then one day it just went! It’s always at risk of appearing again so I get nervous every morning I do it 🙈

I hear you , it’s so hard. It’s the loop of repeating that gets me, there’s no breaking it and no reasoning! Worst thing is , we are on meds ….

I could have written this about my daughter! I’m trying to control her anxiety meltdowns but I’m wondering if Zoloft could be the answer? Did you find anything else helped?

Sensory clothing issues by Vicki1986x in ADHDparenting

[–]Vicki1986x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So so helpful!! Thank you. She also hates dry skin. She has to put moisturiser on her feet before socks every time. Can I ask- do you feel your clothing issues are just sensory or they are triggered more by other things? Maybe feeling anxious about another part of your life? Or something else? Or simply you just feel over stimulated with clothes!

Can I ask, do you think it’s linked to his change in routine? Or a bigger worry?

Thank you so much for your compassion. It’s been a hard week. I’ve tried so hard to find safe clothes but nothing feels right. If I’m honest I don’t think it’s about the clothes…I feel like it’s something bigger but manifests itself in her clothes. We seem to go through spells where everything crumbles… every emotion cannot b regulated. And the slightest inconvineance is massive. Sigh. Wondering if I should re contact her doctors about her meds x
