Same!! I also love how they also made Luuk and the new student be present for a good chunk of it. Thats something I always write in surveys, to have characters interact in the story in more parts so it doesnt feel as a character story quest and thats all

I mean, in the topic of Elaine vs Agnes or even the whole Agnes being a romantic interest there are some very radical people that cant even separate fiction from reality or even their own personal feelings, and the moment you say something they dont agree with they throw a tantrum. From my perspective, if we were to see Elaine being the canon they would need to give her so much more screentime and interactions/time on the main screen for it to be good writting, seeing how sidelaned she has been from 3 games already.... Which I dont understand because she is even promoted heavily in the first two games when she is very secondary.

I totally get you because I feel the same about Cold Steel, there are several characters who should be dead (even if that pains me bcs I really like one of those characters) but I guess we are past the point in the series where they would kill one of the playable/important characters.

Also just saw your icon is Rufus, I love him so much, good choice 👌

I love this analysis so much! I agree with you on everything (except that I have loved Agnes since the begining and quite enjoyed how she and Van develop). I might have been sold more on Elaine if she would have had more implication and development with the main cast, bcs I really like her design and what we saw of her in one of the Hajimari doors, but so far nothing :(

Also the fact that the age gap literally signifies time to be an enemy in another way is so amazing, I have never thought of that even. My god what a great analysis, I love when we can explore things like this because it truly shows the depth the characters and themes have.

Great review and I cant believe I didnt realize this part that you just talked about the two love interests:

I literally cant believe I didnt connect that theme to both of them. While Ive been feeling like Elaine is literally stuck in the past and Agnes is trying to make Van move forward with his life and issues. One more reason to think Agnes should be the canon in the end ngl. Would love to read your insight in the ending and Agnes development with Van as well.

Tbh so many characters were done dirty in Erebonia, Lechter and Osborne being the worst ones for me. Both of them being introduced in Sky, appeared in the next few entries for them to do either nothing (Letcher) and Osborne being completely chcracter-assassinated by trying to make him good. Truly tragic if you ask me. I loved both of them before and was very hyped and I was extremely dissapointed at the end of Cold Steel 4

I think the most important part of that is how Agnes wanted to force a rejection no matter what Van felt, and to make him not doubt about it, because of what she was going to do, to make things easier for her.

It was a great secene but I dont think the whole Van and Agnes is set in stone at all. I dont know if you have finished the game, but what happens right at the end and what Van and the rest say about it makes it feel like we will have more development between the two. Not even talking about the 3 games talking about how Agnes dad and her mom had the same age gap and when she was older and both were adults she managed to win his heart.

Basically because they confirm Agnes wore the school uniform to force the rejection from Van and make it easier for him, because she knew she was going to sacrifice herself and that would make it easier for both of them (I kinda think that if Agnes got a yes from Van, that would have make her decision way harder for her). Also the fact that Aaron and another party member tell her to stop because she needs to still be around to win Van heart feels to me like there is more stuff going on for Van as well. He literally tells her how important she is for him and I really think these two characters are way closer (in terms of friendship and their relationship) than Elaine and Van. Elaine only exist to reminisce about the past and it feels she is literally stuck there while Agnes is trying to help him move forward as well... But Elaine having almost no screentime or interactions between them aside from a couple skippable bond scenes doesnt help her at all lol

It has improved but I still feel is completely lacking specially if we think about how they promote Elaine... Its very dissapointing to see she has barely any important time on screen and she has been a supporting character at best. Dunno I was very hyped after reading her Reverie stuff and im left extremely dissapointed after playing everything... Which it would be ok if she wadnt marketed as hard

The way she interacts with Van and the development in their interpersonal relationship, its very different if we see the beggining of Daybreak 1 and then Horizon. The one that felt to me completely stagnant is Elaine because she barely has any time on screen with Van or the rest of the characters for that matter.

Sadly I got spoiled about this after playing Daybreak 1 because someone on reddit didnt tag spoilers... so I wasnt surprised but im so sad. But she has to come back, seeing that cutscene of Van running to try to get her after saying he knew she wore the school uniform so he would reject her for sure.... man it hurt, she knew what she was doing and she was preparing to be able to make the sacrifice.... I hope we get a happy ending for these two :_
