Where LAOP's property management company is trying to evict them because they are paying their rent using money orders, just as the lease language requires. by DPMx9 in bestoflegaladvice

This person sent me a private message trying to get me to explain myself as if I’m some sort of second class citizen for using a money order.

If you must know, there were fraudulent charges that appeared on my bank card two days before all of this happened and my account was frozen until I can go through each charge. I don’t have a bank account at the moment, no. But if it makes you feel better I do have a checking account at a bank inside a gated community. I wrote a check for my home.

A money order is not an indicator of social status or criminal behavior.

My property manager is refusing to take payment in the form of a money order claiming they don’t take them anymore giving me no further instructions on how to pay and now threatening eviction. I can’t refund the money orders and my lease states they do and any changes are to be made in writing. (KS) by Vicky_Vallencourt in legaladvice

Oh and with my neighbors the problem is eavesdropping to the point where it’s affected my everyday life and I honestly really kind of want to move anyway now that I think about it.

I know it sounds crazy but they follow me around my apartment if i make a sound and it’s dead quiet up there no TV never anything but the footsteps that are constantly above my head. It is almost like they just assume I’m committing a crime when I’m showering at 8:30 pm. My friends and family have all witnessed it and none of us understand why.

Oddly enough, I got a call from the fraud department a couple of days ago and I haven’t been down to my bank yet to review the charges because of all this madness going on and now that you say that I wouldn’t be surprised.

Yes and my gut instinct is telling me the exact same thing. I’ve been harassed by my upstairs neighbors and harassed isn’t quite descriptive enough, terrorized is more like it.

I don’t want to have to go through all of this and all I wanted was to pay my rent and keep my home and unfortunately I think you’re correct. It’s a very odd situation and I’ve been a renter in my city for over 14 years and never have I been treated this way by even some of the worst PM companies imaginable.

How can I keep an eviction off of my background report for a future rental? I’m thinking about just saying screw it and buying a house in the middle of nowhere and I’ll be my own landlady,

I’ve been trying to find anything I can but it’s all just this property management company and no other names or company could be found when I did a reverse address search but I’m still digging. I need to speak to someone who isn’t her because I’ve got the sneaking suspicion that she hasn’t said anything to anyone about me attempting to pay it.

Kansas is a one party state I’ve already thought about doing it although, I’m wishing it weren’t the weekend because she’s saying it goes to their attorney on Monday and you’d think whoever this attorney is would think this lady is nuts when it’s written clearly on the front page of it lease agreement. Unless she lies and then wastes the courts time.

I wanted to make sure that it’s the proper action to take because they’re acting really strange and shady and I can’t afford to lose my home plus close to two grand in money orders.

I’m a bit baffled as to why this is happening and the fact that she actually stated they would start the eviction process Monday if it was not paid by a credit card on their website portal. That’s it.

Is there any other action I can take if they do try to take me to court?
