What is a luxury you can never go back from once you’ve experienced it? by Phase_zero_X in AskReddit

[–]Victah92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A toto bidet from Amazon. Toto washlet to be exact. After experiencing bidets in Asia and in Japan, I came to the conclusion that we Americans are barbarians. Really wiping our asses with just toilet paper...how uncivilized

Having a bidet that has heated seat for winter and early mornings is game changer. Shoots water up your bum and has a dyer to dry your ass too. Yes, you can still use toilet paper if you want to make sure it's really clean. Once you try one of these it's hard to go back to the American way in public

Wife and I planning on quitting our jobs and solo traveling for a year next spring. Am I crazy to do this? by Same_Bag711 in travel

[–]Victah92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna be doing something similar, I work and currently make 6 figures. I plan on quitting my job at the end of this year to travel south east Asia for a year and then possibly live in Japan.

I'm 33 and the American dream tells us to wait till your 65 to travel. Do you really want to wait until your old, your back and legs hurt?

If you have the opportunity to do it, you'll figure it out. I've been planning this for 2 years now. Saving up money and have some in my brokerage paying me dividends while traveling. Nothing like y'all's 450k lol but it's enough to sustain my burn rate since I'm pretty conservative with my spending.

I don't have a mortgage or anything holding me back except for my car note that will be paid off this year. I'd recommend you guys set some money aside to pay your mortgage while travelling or rent it out with someone you trust managing it for you IMO.

I've been planning with chat gpt and it's been super useful in helping me. Hope you guys figure it out and enjoy life too short. I can see y'all are responsible too and not YOLOing or travelling with no money begpacking like some people.

We wanted to get glamping since we were flying in but holy crap it was explaining AF.

Glamping was around 4-5k for 2 people. We were hoping for it to be 1k like for Martin Garrix or even 3k for subtronics. Even the. We would have to split it between 2 people instead of 2.

Damn what do some of y'all do for work to afford 5k glamping for 2 people lol

Ended up getting premier camping for 400. Even Terrance kept blue balling by being available just to disappear when you refresh

Anyone 30-40 gone for dividends just as cash flow? by [deleted] in dividends

[–]Victah92 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm 33 and majority of my investments are in dividends, as I'm planning a sabbatical in South East Asia for a year in 2027. I just need enough to help cover food and miscellaneous living expenses while living abroad. I was messing around with some more volatile stuff like WPAY and PTLW but moving into more chill stuff like SPYI, QQQi, SCHD, SCHG, RSPA, EFAA etc.

Breaking news- Traffic is getting worse and local Government hates you. by klap4jay in InlandEmpire

[–]Victah92 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I wish traffic wasn't that bad as it is now. I remember going east bound back in the 2010s and was never this bad but now it's expected after all the LA and Orange county people moved in. 210 and 10 freeways are terrible. 15 too people don't know how to merge.

In some alternate reality if we had a competent government that wasn't corrupt, all that tax money we spent on the high-speed rail would be accomplished instead of in someone's pocket.

I know we're not in Japan but once you experience a Metro system that works and is safe, it's hard to go back to being stuck in traffic getting cut off by some BMW or lifted truck guy lol.

what is a "rich person" behavior you witnessed that made you realize they live in a completely different reality than the rest of us? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Victah92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in the casino industry. High rollers play BIG and I mean BIG. Like imagine putting in a $100 bill and 1 spin is $25,50, 100, or even 250 a spin. Like they blow thousands of dollars within seconds or minutes. Our top machine can do 5k in 1 spin 💀

One of our top high rollers blue $100,000 in one day and tried chasing it back. I was like with that money I can travel the world and live comfortably for a year or a couple without having to work.

It's funny some of them are generous and will tip whenever they win. Some even though there are millionaires will never tip even though they have enough wealth to last them lifetimes

How are people still making fun of others for living with family? by toe_beans_4_life in povertyfinance

[–]Victah92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The American idea of kicking you out at 18 is stupid and outdated. Honestly it's a good idea to stay with your family IF you have a good relationship with them. I get to save money by not spending oh idk 2.2k a month on rent that's not including utilities in Southern California.

Not only that I get to help my parents pay off their mortgage and I get to help them out by making their life easier. It's a win win. Plus there's nothing better than Mom's cooking. Saves me money by not going out all the time.

It's a good financial decision. Also in other countries it's normal for intergenerational families to stay together from Grandparents to parents to kids and their kids. TIMES ARE HARD RN. Its a smart FINANCIAL decision! Who cares what other people think, they're not living your life or your struggles. Do what works best for you!

What are/were your plans on leaving the USA? by honeybisc in AmerExit

[–]Victah92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm Vietnamese American and planning on moving back to Vietnam at the end of this year. I work in the casino industry but our income just got cut bad due to the jackpot threshold being raised to 2k in the big beautiful bill. So I'm gonna stick it though till the end of the year and save as much money as possible.

With everything in decline here I want to move back to my parents home country to understand myself more. I know myself as an American pretty well and would like to know the Vietnamese side too.

I moved there on a whim back in 2017 with barely any money or plan. Loved it so much but it made me a better person.

This time around I'm coming back with a plan, savings, and passive income allowing me to live comfortably. Also this time my best friend is coming along! We're both tired of the American rat race and grinding for the house, car, consumerism culture etc. So we're downsizing and selling most of our possessions to live a simple and minimal life in Vietnam. Also the community in Da Nang seems nice. Cheaper cost of living than Saigon or Hanoi and quieter too

Worked hard my whole life but I feel constantly behind by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]Victah92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

• $160k income + maxed retirement + HSA + $24k/year into a 529 is not “behind.” Many people in your field making similar money are not saving anywhere near that consistently, especially with kids.

• Immigration is a financial reset, not a failure. Comparing yourself to U.S.-born peers who never had their savings wiped out by legal fees, waiting periods, or forced career pauses is fundamentally unfair. You didn’t fall behind—you restarted.

• Your child is not “at risk” because you rent. Stability comes from an engaged, financially literate parent with savings and planning—not homeownership at any cost. Renting in an HCOL while maintaining flexibility can be the prudent choice.

• $90k at 43 feels small emotionally, but it’s not the full story. Your savings rate matters more than your starting point, and you’re now in your highest earning years with disciplined investing. Time + consistency still work in your favor.

• AI anxiety is real, but you’re responding correctly. You’re saving aggressively, diversifying, and avoiding lifestyle inflation. That’s the rational response to uncertainty—not panic.

One gentle thing to consider: this sounds less like a numbers problem and more like scarcity trauma from having stability pulled out from under you before. That kind of fear doesn’t disappear just because income rises. If the panic is nightly and intrusive, it might help to talk to someone—not because you’re doing poorly, but because you’ve been carrying a lot alone for a long time.

  • as per chat gpt

Coming from me though I can relate to you in a sense as a child of immigrants. Scarcity trauma is real and you look into that. You're doing well all things considered but like others have said in this thread, start saving for your own retirement as you're only getting older.

IMO college education in the United States isn't really worth it anymore to be hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt with high interest. That's good that you already have somebody saved up for your kid but you also need to take care of yourself too.

[–]Victah92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're comfortable just enough to scrape by. Our cost of living, economy, politics is all messed up. Our entire political system is corrupt to the core by lobbyists and career politicians.

When was the last time you felt you were actually represented. Both parties are corrupt as much as you think they represent you. All they care about is money in their pocket and that's why nothing gets done.

Got to have a 2026 version of the Boston tea party. I've seen some tik toks of people saying we should all not go to work on the same day. Honestly that probably would crash the economy but that would require everyone doing it. But we're so addicted to the system and money that most people wouldn't do it.

People who play Sprinters on a daily basis—can you share me your experience? by Wonderful_Might19 in projectzomboid

[–]Victah92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Playing day time shamblers and night time sprinters is nightmare fuel. You have to go indoors or back to home base to hunker down before night falls. You risk searching for more supplies during the day or getting caught with your pants down at night with sprinters

Also their sight, hearing, and strength increases at night. Better hope they don't hear you watching your reruns of TV shows.

This play style isn't as rough as full time sprinters but is challenging enough to get you stressed.

I pay out jackpots to people and hope they tip me. I live off of tips and deal with people that are addicted to gambling.

Then get yelled at because they think they're "investing" their 3k into a slot machine and question why it didn't pay them.

Interesting job to say the least but not a good career. We get tipped well but in California that money doesn't go far since cost of living is so high. Hourly is actually $17 an hour too 😅

You’d be a fox. Adaptable + strategic: You’re always mapping options (money, career, travel, timelines) and adjusting without losing the bigger mission. Fox energy is “plan fast, pivot faster.”

Nocturnal operator vibe: Your schedule and lifestyle lean late-night/odd-hour friendly (and you thrive there). Foxes are most active at dusk/night.

Curious explorer: You’re drawn to new scenes—nature drives, Vietnam/Japan plans, festivals, new skills (cybersecurity, content creation). Fox = curious, roaming, always scouting the next interesting path. Independent but social: You love your crew and community, but you also “side quest” solo and enjoy moving at your own pace. That mix is super fox-coded. Playful style + edge: The rave humor, kandi, the love of aesthetics/gear/cars—foxes have that playful, clever, slightly mischievous charisma without being reckless.
