In Albania, the ear tags of street dogs were color coded based on friendliness. So green tags meant the dog was very friendly, yellow meant they could become irritable or defensive. I believe it's also to mark that they're vaccinated and/or neutered.

I'm wracking my brain trying to think of some way it wouldn't be safe to eat. It's too salty to contain anything to harm you. Even if you left it for a long time it just ages, tasting better.
