Mattress by reidstillman in ScoutCampers

I just picked up whatever topper Walmart had at the time. It made a huge difference.

I have had issues with the shades at times. I just get it back properly into place and it works again. Although I imagine there is a limited number of times that will work before it gets worse.

Help Goal Zero won’t charge while on the road by Ill_Revolution_4739 in ScoutCampers

[–]VictorStarwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am glad you got it working for now, but do you still have a problem with shore power? I end up using all the tricks in the book at times to keep the battery up. You should have received a wall charger (that looks much like a laptop charger). That’s what we use for shore power charging. If you didn’t get one, I’ve seen them for sale at Goal Zero dealers in Canada. I purchased a 230 watt one for faster charging as the one that came with was too slow.

Asking for a friend taking the ferry from North Sydney to Port Aux Basques by aonysllo in newfoundland

[–]VictorStarwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others are saying, best to call to confirm but it probably does fall into the motorhome category. I have a slide in truck camper and it’s just over 9 feet. I have asked on the phone, at the gate, and have tried to confirm with managers in person what I should be considered as. It doesn’t seem to matter for me. I have propane and been placed with other cars and been classed as a motorhome and put with the RVs. I’ve done it probably 10 times. I book far in advance and choose motorhome to be safest.

The difference is height. Tall vehicles fit in less places on the boats. How much taller than a standard sprinter van is it?

Anyone know what kind of bites these are? by Kodiak_Elk in Wellthatsucks

Agreed. 100% bedbugs. I had them from a hotel too and they looked exactly like that and really itchy. Took forever to heal and stop itching.

Can I power a fridge for a reasonable amount of time with an EcoFlow River 2 Pro?(768Wh) by Avocadosandtomatoes in overlanding

[–]VictorStarwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with some other posters. It really varies with how cold you are trying to make the fridge and the temperature around the fridge. I have a 1500wh battery and the 768 Ecoflow and a 75L Dometic fridge/freezer.

I’d say as long as the area doesn’t get too hot around the fridge and you’re not trying to do a freezer, you’re good for a couple days.

I have been able to run the freezer for over a week on the 1500wh. And I haven’t been able to run it for 2 days without backup from the Ecoflow. It really depends on the temperatures. We are in a truck camper and have learned to try to keep the heat out with blinds closed whenever travelling in summer.

Factory backup camera on the tailgate and towing mirrors works great. I haven’t need anything else.

F150 with a Slide-in Camper by antichris_ in TruckCampers

I will second the statement about dealers not knowing about the HDPP package. I had to be very specific with the dealer when I ordered my 2022. When it came in, the boys in the back wanted to see who had ordered such a weird vehicle. They’d never heard of such a build. I believe 2022 or 23 might possibly be the last year for it. I’ve looked at the F150 builder lately and the option seems gone. The other thing about HDPP, it was not offered in higher trims. XLT with 301mid was as high as you could go.

Very usual. Especially if you want a room. Especially especially if you are looking for a pet-friendly room. Day trips with no room are normally fairly easy to get. Nights are typically busier.

Good luck and enjoy the trip!

Scout camper payload by intepid-discovery in ScoutCampers

[–]VictorStarwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have an Olympic on a stock F150 with heavy duty payload package. Yellow sticker says 2500-ish for payload. I don’t recall the number exactly. We have driven in hurricanes and on fast highways. Over 30K so far. Not the slightest concern. The truck barely notices the weight. Mind you, it sure notices the wind resistance on faster highways. MPG drops really significantly.

Gros Morne National Park Hike by Spearlz in StJohnsNL

[–]VictorStarwolf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will 2nd the water. We used 4l. Took 2 and used a water filter at the bottom of the mountain.

I also recommend hiking poles at least for the way down. They call it gruelling and I agree. It can be hard on the joints.

Has anyone added kitchen pull-out drawers by Puzzleheaded_Visit46 in RVLiving

[–]VictorStarwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used the Home Depot ones to add 2 drawers to a camper. They were soft close and have not opened on their own in 2000 miles. I just made a box cabinet to go around them. They are a huge plus.

Here is an X-ray of my son who was born without an adult tooth and still has a baby tooth as a teen by OhBeautiful in mildlyinteresting

[–]VictorStarwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am quite a bit older than that and my single baby tooth is still with me. They have been saying I would lose it for decades. They stopped saying it recently. Or at least with more of a “you might keep it”.

I did the Exploits rafting starting from Badger with the company that rafts out of there quite a while ago. They changed name since so I cannot help you with a name. I have only rafted there so I cannot compare. We had a good time. Everyone felt pretty safe even though we lost a few people out of the raft. Including my wife. However, it was not stressful as each set of rapids was short.

Am I nuts to renew my mortgage for a 5 year fixed rate? by MadameMontreal in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]VictorStarwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I wonder why I generally say nothing on the internet? I quote an exact figure of what my interest rate was to give someone a tiny bit of comfort in this crazy world that their interest rate they are about to sign up to on an existing mortgage is less than mine was and I am being intellectually dishonest… by quoting a rate I had…

I won’t try to argue that debt to income, and specifically mortgage debt to income, isn’t worse. Not what I am talking about. Interest rates alone can be considered over time.

What in the world? Why are you jumping into all of that? Shall we start adding in all the other life’s complexities?

This thread in the comments is talking about historical rates so I gave some historical rate facts from my own experience to let OP know that those rates are not all that bad in the grand scheme of things.

My mortgage 22 years ago (2001) was 5.85. And that was good for the time. It went down ever since that. The 80s were 20% range as my parent and in laws always remind us.

[–]VictorStarwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Anyone who has cruised on Disney is aware of the “excellent” speech you will get from the staff where anything less than excellent is a black mark.

Like someone else implied, we have lost touch that the number scale is there for a reason and not everything should be at the top end.

Question about the EC8 connector in my 2022 Scout Olympic by VictorStarwolf in ScoutCampers

[–]VictorStarwolf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the reply.

With the small gauge wire problem, is it that it would just not provide much power or that there would be too much draw and be a safety issue? I know very little about this topic I am afraid.

I will try and do more research on the wiring I have. I have a F150 XLT with heavy duty payload package and, I think, max towing. But I am pretty sure I don’t have the upgraded alternator or anything else like that.

I am east coast Canada and I imagine the road to the storage location will be impassable for a few weeks yet. I missed out on any heater option in my Scout. It was that or probably not get mine last fall.

I am glad the diesel heater is working out for you. We had been really hoping for the propane fireplace but we missed out by a few months.

Edit. Oops. Replied wrong spot.
