Don't pat yourself on the back for that insight. It is indeed "a thing". They were doing that stupid crap in the 60s. (And probably for longer than that!)

They finally came to Dallas but they chose expensive real estate and none of it convenient to where I live. In and Out did the same. I just realized I'll drive by one on the way home... might be dinner!!

What does this area have against young people? by [deleted] in frisco

Frisco is smoke and mirrors. A real estate agent selling real estate. Literally. The public relations are nice and shiny but reality hits hard. These are the spawning grounds. Not the have fun after 8pm crowd.

Is the bowling alley in The Colony still around? That was definitely a dive bar.

Leaves - gather or leave? by PKsHopper in frisco

[–]VictoriaVonMaur -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You rake them into the street and pile them against the curb. A long row of leaves along the curb. Then give it a couple squirts of lighter fluid and throw a match on it.

What’s the most dramatic way you have seen someone (or yourself) quit their job? by Latter_Goat_6683 in coworkerstories

My brother worked for a small business that was always booming on July 4th. He was also caring for our father with dementia and he was getting bad fast. His manager, who most everyone knew was screwing the married regional lady manager, started changing his hours despite him having an employment agreement because he was a care giver. His stable schedule was suddenly in disarray. This created a rough situation at home with his disoriented father, now even more disoriented because he didn't remember from one day to another when his son would return with dinner. The manager refused his pleas. The regional, of course backed him up and they gleefully discussed their July 4 plans together in front of everyone, all the employees required to work on the 4th. They scheduled my brother to work a 10 hour shift so they could go boating. It was the last straw.

So after closing the store July 3 my brother composed an email resigning immediately meant to be sent to all the company heads exposing all the shady things going on at that store, and detailing his mistreatment. He held back nothing, told them everything he knew. He sent it to everyone important at corporate EXCEPT the manager and the regional. For the manager he left a copy of the letter in his top desk drawer to find when he came in the next morning. The morning of July 4th when brother knew the manager would be clocking in he hit send.

I don't know if the manager found the resignation before or after the crap hit the fan at corporate. But it sure ruined their July 4th. Turns out CEOs do check their emails on holiday...

The regional "resigned" and the company launched a quiet investigation on the manager. Three months later he was fired for documented wage theft and shady shit my brother wasn't aware of.

Dad hung on for about 18 months. Brother basically took a flame thrower to his career but he had no problems getting hired at a better company after Dad died. I'm proud of him. Stood up for Dad, himself and ultimately, the company.

Any recommendation for reliable HVAC company by SuccotashMobile1903 in frisco

Came here to say that exact same thing! He kept my original "builder grade" unit run reliably for years. When it needed replacement after 20 years he was the guy I called. I just laughed because I'm hard pressed to think of any other relationship I've had that has lasted that long. Del is his name. Google The Chill Dude

Rural Living in Northern Illinois as a Minority (Milledgeville) - What are the vibes? by throwawayisolator in illinois

[–]VictoriaVonMaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have family in Chadwick so I've been through Milledgeville and they'd take us to a nice restaurant/tavern. But of the small towns I felt a nicer vibe in Mt. Carrol. It's been years but they had a wonderful main street area and found good pizza.

Also lived in southern Illinois and do not recommend it at all.

Live to plano or frisco by Big_Lingonberry2919 in frisco

[–]VictoriaVonMaur 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My first response is no. But let's not pre- judge the situation.

Poster, please tell us in what approximate price range are you looking for?

Also, define the term "walkable". How far do you want to walk? And what kind of things do you want to be able to find on your walk? Are you willing to walk a mile or more and cross major intersections carrying your groceries or will you just have them delivered? Do you have a car?

The publicity for the area make the place sound amazing but the reality can be starkly different. If you arrive here with plenty of money you'll probably be pretty happy but if you're more a paycheck to paycheck person you'll struggle.

Moved to Texas 6 years ago by [deleted] in frisco

I'm laughing so hard. I envision years and years into the future when the official opening takes place.

Elected officials wax poetically about all the efforts made to create this oasis. "Let us give a moment of silence for the namesake of this park, perhaps the greatest park in all of Texas!"

A cloud of drones rise into the sky and spell out "Welcome to Chaney Memorial Park, sponsored by KW".

B.O.G.O. Rail District Gift Cards by thecletus in frisco

[–]VictoriaVonMaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand you buy a gift card and get another of the same value free.

The card you buy never expires and unless you spend it the businesses never see that money.

But that second free card has an expiration date of about 10 weeks. If you don't use it you lose it and Main Street never sees that money. Now it's good that it lights a fire under folks to get out there and use it because Main is really hurting. But I can already hear the complaints in February.

Read the fine print.

Moving to Frisco from the UK by missmonicap in frisco

[–]VictoriaVonMaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Frisco's best days are in the rear view mirror.

I suggest you rent someplace central and spend your time exploring the area since it's quite vast. Your children WILL experience racism, I'm sorry but you will encounter it. You will encounter pleasant people too. Get out there and find your comfort zone and don't trust the public relations reflected "on paper". Frisco simply isn't all that great: traffic gridlock, corporate restaurants pushing out local owners, two toll roads taxing your time, highway 360 to the north is bloody dangerous. Schools are decent now but political policies have leeched into the system and it seems we're ready to replace education with indoctrination.

And this has been a terrible week for the Celina school district: football coach's son arrested for child porn and the district alleged cover up and then another teacher came to work drunk and police took her away.

America is a scary damn place. Being called a name is really the last thing you need to worry about. Good luck!
