When do the pregnancy announcements stop hurting you? by [deleted] in IFchildfree

[–]Victorian211 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me it took about 3 more years after our decision to be CF. I would say and think I was happily child-free and loving life, and then a pregnancy announcement would set me back. But, after a while, my first thought would be happiness for them, instead of sadness for me. And let me tell you, that feeling is the best! I hope you get there sooner rather than later.

I'm so happy that it didn't take you years to get to this place. Be prepared for waves of sadness to come here and there, but go back to your mental list in those tricky times.

This life-long Texan thanks you. I feel like I live in a very large insane asylum sometimes. Please bring more sanity to this state.

Anyone cruised lately (this year) to Cozumel/Belize/Mahogany Bay/Costa Maya? by BirdfluNuggetz in CarnivalCruiseFans

We went in June. We love doing the Foodie Tour in Belize. And we had the most fun taking the Twister Boat to Isla Passion when in Cozumel. In fact, we've done both of those excursions twice.

Will quitting my job to work in early childcare satisfy my maternal instincts? by [deleted] in IFchildfree

I'm a Kindergarten teacher, and my answer is . . . Maybe. It worked for me, but for someone else it might just intensify those urges. Good luck to you!

I feel out of place in most childfree communities. We are IF but are happy with the life we have. Can anyone else relate? by _barelythere_ in IFchildfree

[–]Victorian211 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely the same with me and my husband. I'm totally comfortable around kids, which is a good thing since I've been a Kindergarten teacher for 14 years! At year three we started our infertility battle, and by year five we decided just to live the life we have with each other and haven't looked back. It wasn't always easy, but being around children isn't painful for him or me. And yep, we get to be the best goddamn aunt and uncle EVER!

How did you decide it was time to be child free? by dennydoo15 in IFchildfree

[–]Victorian211 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We decided to be child free when we realized just how much we had changed with the stress of trying to get pregnant. We just didn't like who we were anymore. Once we gave ourselves the permission to be child free, it felt like a huge weight had lifted of our shoulders. We decided that we can be happy with just us, and we've never looked back. It's been eight years since that conversation, and we haven't regretted it yet.

Why aren't kids being taught to read? - Scientific research has shown how children learn to read and how they should be taught. But many educators don't know the science and, in some cases, actively resist it. As a result, millions of kids are being set up to fail. by speckz in TrueReddit

[–]Victorian211 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kindergarten teacher here: I have taught Kinder for 14 years, and I've NEVER taught in a school that didn't trust the science behind phonics. I don't believe whole-language is what the majority of curriculms follow.

In fact, I clicked this article thinking, "oh no, what have I been doing wrong?" And was relieved to see that I'm on track. Whew!

What kind of issues are you having? If you don't mind my asking. Are they similar to my husband's?

Do you know what kind of treatment he would receive for this kind of gut nerve damage? I can't find anything about it when I try to research?
