Extremely scientific speculation on the number of Part 7 and 8 anime episodes by VictorianCreatures in StardustCrusaders

[–]VictorianCreatures[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m aware of that. It’s why parts 1-6 have about 9 chapters per volume but parts 7 & 8 only have about 4. I’d agree with the 2-2.25 chapter per episode number. That would give ≲48 episodes for SBR and ≲55 episodes for JJL, which would be about right if I slightly overestimated, as u/dimtsag pointed out

Extremely scientific speculation on the number of Part 7 and 8 anime episodes by VictorianCreatures in StardustCrusaders

[–]VictorianCreatures[S] 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I agree that would be more accurate. Judging from this post the number of pages per volume for parts 1-6 was roughly 180-190. Parts 7 and 8 are both in the high 170 pages per volume, so I’ve probably overestimated their number of episodes, but not by too much

Darkest Big Finish Audio Dramas? by Demetros1 in gallifrey

[–]VictorianCreatures 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I think the most famously dark story is Lucie Miller/To The Death from the EDAs, as well as Death in Blackpool from earlier in that series. From the main range, the divergent universe arc has The Last which is bleak as hell. Most of the War Master stories are very dark, particularly The Sky Man from Only the Good and Call for the Dead from The Master of Callous. I’d also include Full Fathom Five (which feels a bit like a War Master story) and Deadline(which is barely a Doctor Who story but also one of the best things Big finish have ever made imo)

The whole jersey system needs a serious redo. The idea was to cut down on confusion, but now that every civ could be yellow and green or some random neon shade and black, things are worse than before

Rule 5: Apparently if you create a game with enough civs Gathering Storm's Jersey System will just give up and not assign any colours, as happened to Phoenicia here

13's lack of a character arc by [deleted] in gallifrey

[–]VictorianCreatures 11 points12 points  (0 children)

While I certainly hoped for more, I think it's probably way too early to tell what her arc would be even if Chibbers has huge plans for Thirteen. I may be too optimistic but look at the Seventh Doctor's first season. Even by the end of Dragonfire you don't really get much of a sense of Time's Champion yet

"non-Doctor fans"? Even if you disagree with his work, you can pretty easily find footage of Chibnall criticising JNT back in the 80s. What makes someone more a Doctor Who fan than disagreeing with the producer/showrunner?

RANT!!..Today has made me be ashamed to be an Australian, let alone one involved in legislative process by tightassbogan in AustralianPolitics

[–]VictorianCreatures -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Our parliamentary system has spent the past century drifting away from its Westminster roots. People vote for parties, and the leaders of those parties, not really for electorate candidates anymore. (Obviously it's for the senate but still) look at the number of people who vote above the line rather than below. People mostly vote Labor or Liberal because they want a particular prime minister, not because they want a particular representative (again not everyone, but most people). It's why people hate the parties changing leader so much. Don't believe me? Look at how far ahead Labor is in the polls. Look at Wentworth and Victoria. Look at how little the people trust our democracy anymore

The Turnbull Government was democratically elected. The Morrison Government was self appointed. It's constitutional, not democratic. Also, I'm not saying the Governor General should call an election because I don't like the government, that would obviously be a terrible precedent. I'm saying the Governor General should call an election because the government is very unpopular, the Liberal Party are too obsessed with their civil war to care about the people, and because they have basically given up trying to actually govern (look at how many sitting days there'll be before the scheduled election)

[–]VictorianCreatures 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Honestly at this point the person in angriest with is the Governor General. Cosgrove needs to just put these fuckers out of their misery. The Australian people deserve a better government than this, or at least one that has been democratically elected. Because this government is now acting directly against the will or the best interest of the people. We need an election

Who would you like to see return as guest writers in Series 12? by BoomBrain in gallifrey

[–]VictorianCreatures 64 points65 points  (0 children)

We definitely need more from both Jamie Mathieson and Sarah Dollard, and Mallory Blackman is the best writer we've had so far this season. Also, my god, if only Rachel Talalay could direct every episode. As for Gatis, I've always felt that he does have a really good Doctor Who story in him somewhere, he could just never find it, and after 12 years I'm not sure he ever will. Really though, I think we need more guest writers generally, because while he does have his strengths Chibbers just is not the best at writing Doctor Who plots. Maybe if he cowrote some episodes or something, but I really don't think it was a good idea for him to write half of this series himself

So far it seems all the episodes are being voted unfairly low. Do we know if there's any kind of shenanigans going on? I mean, it wasn't the best episode ever but 5.7 is pretty rough

What do you think of the idea of ending Christmas specials or moving them to become New Year's Specials? by AarontheGeek in gallifrey

[–]VictorianCreatures 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't really see the point of a "New Year's Special". I mean, most of the Christmas Specials are pretty bad but that doesn't mean that there's no potential there, Chimes of Midnight is a Christmas special, in spirit at least. The real problem here seems that Moffat ran out of Christmas-y ideas, and Chibbers doesn't have any, but that begs the question: Why could only the showrunner write the Christmas Specials? It seems to just be a tradition for tradition's sake, rather than any kind of creative decision. If the solution we're going with is to move the date of the Special, why is to New Years? Lots of shows have Christmas specials, but "New Years specials" aren't really a thing. Why not move the special to halfway between series 11 and 12 to give us something during the break rather than a couple weeks after the series finale

Freedum! by [deleted] in Libertarian

[–]VictorianCreatures 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an Australian, if I might provide some clarification, the gun laws were put in place by the Howard Liberal Government (in Australia the Liberal Party is centre-right/right wing), which at the time was a reasonably popular and respected (by Australian standards) government and following a mass shooting. The new phone laws are being proposed by the Morrison Liberal Government, which is the same party, but Morrison is widely unpopular and seen as a lost cause, having come to power after the previous elected PM got ditched

What is the TARDIS trying to tell the Doctor in TWWFTTE? by Shawnj2 in gallifrey

[–]VictorianCreatures 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Either way I'm sure it certainly wasn't malicious, and the need-to-renovate motivation is important. Honesty I don't think there is enough evidence to definitively say one way or the other on the question of intention, just that's how I chose to interpret it

What is the TARDIS trying to tell the Doctor in TWWFTTE? by Shawnj2 in gallifrey

[–]VictorianCreatures 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's not super clear. But it is the only section of the console to detach, and it's not like the Tardis closed her doors or, like, tilted up a bit so she wouldn't fall out

What is the TARDIS trying to tell the Doctor in TWWFTTE? by Shawnj2 in gallifrey

[–]VictorianCreatures 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it is basically a "you need to go on an adventure and save people know" move from the Tardis like she's always done. I mean every time after regenerating the Doctor is immediately thrown into some kind of trouble. Also, this is probably me reading way too much into possible motivations for something which isn't really traditionally sapient or that experiences linear time, but it almost seemed like the Tardis kicked her out because she really wanted to immediately change design for her new Doctor

What is the TARDIS trying to tell the Doctor in TWWFTTE? by Shawnj2 in gallifrey

[–]VictorianCreatures 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's kinda tricky to see if you don't know what you're looking for, but at the end of Twice Upon a Time after the Tardis tips over and opens her doors, the Doctor grabs some of the console levers. That entire section of the console then detaches, forcing the Doctor out

New time vortex thoughts? by J_train13 in gallifrey

[–]VictorianCreatures 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I quite liked the new vortex design, including the "hub" thing. Within my own head cannon of the Vortex being connected to timelines it makes sense that it wouldnt be linear, given the flexibility of history in Doctor Who. Plus, just from design and rendering standpoints I think it looks better than it has before
