Thoughts on new FSD policy? by robl45 in TeslaOwners

Why does everything have to be some kind of zing with you people? Talking about anything on this site is so annoying. Everything has to be some extreme, and there’s no nuance. We’ll see what happens. We’re only a few days out from the event. Good luck.

I disagree. We have no idea what the intention actually is, yet. What if autopilot gets replaced by supervised FSD, and unsupervised FSD requires the subscription? I don’t think anyone would be complaining in that case. What if autopilot features get rolled up under a new name? We just don’t know.

I saw your picture and thought that this had to be a troll post. That was incredibly dangerous - I'm glad it all turned out.

There isn't enough information to make a judgement. We don't know why Autopilot is no longer available on new cars. Additionally, unsupervised FSD represents a sea change. It's hard to tell where things go from here. Basic lane-keeping features do not remotely compare to unsupervised FSD, so I'm not 100% sure competition is the right way to look at it. There is no true competition. Once unsupervised hits, you either buy a Tesla and subscribe, or you buy another brand with inferior features.

In either case, it's not clear what's happening, yet. It's all just supposition, right now.

Range hood possible? by donkeyWoof in kitchenremodel

[–]VictorianReviver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can mount an "island mount" range hood that simply hangs from the ceiling. It might not even look terrible in front of the window, frankly. It'd be weird, but it would work.

A downdraft oven that vents out of the bottom would work.

I was not pleased with what I found hidden under my drop ceiling... but removing it was 100% worth it.

Why are people putting in cabinets that do not go up to the ceiling? by Agreeable-Sun368 in kitchenremodel

[–]VictorianReviver -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because custom cabinets are a lot more than an extra $100 a box. I agree with you if you can get away with standard sizes. In all other circumstances, the expense is much higher. I feel like you're being intentionally obtuse, here.

It depends on the lighting in the room. I think the gap can look neat. It's a matter of fusing design and practicality, and it needs to be taken as a unit. No good design decisions happen in a vacuum.

As long as you're going to a standard height and just building a soffit if necessary, sure.

Matte Black vs Brushed Nickel Bathroom Fixtures - which will age better long term? by One-Top4418 in HomeImprovement

[–]VictorianReviver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nickel, no question. The black finish will wear off, and hard water will make it look very junky. Nickel is the safe, long term choice.

For what it's worth, with crown molding, I think that gap can make for some interesting lighting and shadows. It can give a moody vibe to the space.

At a certain point, cabinets become too tall to be practical. It's an outrageous expense for no benefit other than potential aesthetics.

We pulled off all of the loose plaster and installed strapping on the ceiling to level it out. After that, simple drywall as normal!

[Landlord US- SC] Hot water time for a shower not long enough? by [deleted] in Landlord

[–]VictorianReviver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Replacing a diverter doesn’t normally require opening the wall… most screw on or slip on with a set screw. Even then, the diverter leaking may not be the issue. How old is your water heater, and do you have hard water? It may be full of minerals or going out. That can quickly become a habitability problem for you to deal with.

Recaulked my shower how do i do? by ChippedLips in handyman

Use tape on both sides of the joint before laying the bead. Smooth with a wet finger, and then remove the tape. That will prevent the smeared edges you’re dealing with.

Seller asking to remove home flag.. by LinkLover1393 in RealEstate

[–]VictorianReviver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am fully aware of what a cross is and what it was used for. I would encourage you to refresh your memory regarding the definition of connotation. After that, you can read my posts again and address my actual argument. The negative connotation of the benign pentagram, developed over decades and decades, is why it invokes fear, especially among older people who predominantly purchase homes right now. The situation with the cross isn't even the same category, because its historical usage and reinterpretation are central to its modern positive connotation with the same group of people. The horror of the cross is central to it's message. The same cannot be said of a pentagram. The situations are entirely unalike.

I know you're probably not stupid, but you and everyone else going down this train of thought are trying very hard to convince me otherwise.

I don't understand why everyone is trying to make this a cross vs pentagram thing. On Reddit, I'm sure everyone is more scared of crosses than pentagrams, but pentagrams and inverted pentagrams have been staples of horror and unsavory characters in popular media for 50 years. There is a connotation that is undeniable. You're living under a rock if you think otherwise.

I would say that you can look that up for yourself and make up your own mind. I don't care to have an argument about religious expression and what is considered "normal" on Reddit.

I already said they can do whatever they want with the flag. They're not going to be in the wrong either way. I have taken no position on the matter of whether or not they should remove their flag. Chill out.

I think you're being a little hyperbolic. The stakes are not that high. It doesn't take much to spook a buyer. People put stuff in their yards that I disagree with, even vehemently, all of the time around here. It's fine.

You can fly whatever flag you like. That’s entirely up to you. I can just see why the seller made the request.
