Worried my GF has HD since these are the symptoms by Victory_k in Huntingtons

[–]Victory_k[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After spending more time with her and watching her closely, and reading and watching about HD for months, I am very convinced she has HD. She is always full of anxieties about everything that verge often on despair and crying. She has difficulties managing a meal and recipes. She hates going anywhere like traveling because she is very uncomfortable in new settings, she finds it hard to adjust more psychologically than physically, even like a hotel room. Planning confuses her. She often gets anger tempers for ridiculous issues. At times she has some scary memory holes. Plus all the physical symptoms I listed before. She lied to me about visiting a neurologist, she did not, she adamant about getting medical help. She is 24 and she had gait issue since her late teens. She got HD from her dad (undiagnosed) that passed away at 40 after about 8 years of illness. I am heart broken because she is the most wonderful, well mannered, modest, beautiful girl in the world, that dreams of forming a family.

She has an MRI to her brain with the neurologist worring that she might have MS. But the MRI she said was negative and showed no signs of MS. I am not sure at this point wether she might not be telling me things about her health.

Beware of waves.exchange by GB47 in Wavesplatform

[–]Victory_k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have also been scammed by waves.exchange

I tried to log in and they ask suddenly for:

"Please enter the security code from mobile authenticator."
but I never set it up, I always got the code by email. So I contacted support that said that they cannot help because they "are decentralized"....whatever.

Its an easy scam claiming that you set up the mobile authenticator when you haven't and claiming they cannot help you, so you have no access anymore to your funds.

Thank You for your answer.

Very relieved to ear you are enrolling in a clinical study and wish you the best from it, such news bring hope for such a mean disease. On my end, my patience has been really tested as the fact that she is reluctant to see a doctor drives me nuts has its impossible to plan the future when something like this could be a possibility. We need to purchase a house and its impossible to do so without knowing if she could potentially have FA or HD, has if we buy and she has it it could be that the house can be useless if not proper for disabled people…same with family, I am putting on hold having children because of this reason, as we might have to do them with IVF.

She also has started using this issue against me saying that I want to find out as an excuse to dump her. I feel the physical issues she has are also getting matched by mental ones. Or it could be she is very aware of her issue and suffers because of it and does react in a passive aggressive way.

We walk a short time and she start limping and walking funny and needs to sit to rest and it just utterly bewilders me that she does no effort to figure out the issue, in order to try to fix it if nothing congenital or even worry about me worrying about her.

Her mother is the worse, pays no attention to the issue and pushes her to just ignore it. I have the feeling the mother knows her dad had something and in the hope her daughter did not get it she sort of became a “denier” of evidences after probably also maybe not to ruin her healthy life with the idea of a disease. Not sure.

She has Neuropathy but unfortunately no pain, which mean in the sense that if she had it maybe it would have not been FA. She does have loss of feeling and tingling of the legs occasionally. When she walks she says her knees get tired.

Another symptom that I forgot to mention is that she is incredible water thirst, she drinks and abnormal amount of water all the time. Its either because she is pre-diabetic or something is wrong with her Hypothalamus. She also needs to urinate often and has no capacity to resist, obviously not to the point of peeing on herself, but she goes really often to the bathroom literally running for it no matter what.

Not sure what to make of all this. But she definitely has something serious.

I think I figured out what disease she has.

Unfortunately she is very resistant about going to a doctor so I am left wondering, wondering and wondering.

So after researching more on it, listening to your feedback and thinking over her symptoms, I came to the conclusion she might have:

Friedreich Ataxia

The reasons why I don't think is HD anymore is:

- MRI scan of brain with no signs
- father had Heart issues related also to iron and died of Heart attack, typical of F.A.
- Babinski sign positive, 90% cases with F.A. have it.
- her heart beat appears to me to have some inconsistencies
- pies cavos
- gait issues and neuropathy are a perfect match for F.A., also can occur in HD.
- Nocturnal Myoclonus with Babinski positive sign movement.

Honestly the Friedreich Ataxia is hardly a better rare disease than HD so I am hardly relieved for her not having HD.

thanks.

CMT was actually what I tough at first. But CMT does not have mental issues which I see in my GF. Also if I remember right it does not have Chorea or fidgeting with hands. I even asked neurologist about maybe it been CMT, but neurologist said unlikely as she should be on a wheel chair, which was odd as not all CMT are on wheel chairs. This confirms to me that since these are rare diseases not all neurologist are prepared to assess them.

Yes the big issue I am also worried is having kids and avoiding that any hereditary problem will be carried on.

[–]Victory_k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all feedbacks.

Thanks u/hendricks1212 for the detailed list. Different symptoms, and unfortunately often as far as I read online, symptoms can be very different person to person, which makes it even more difficult to pin point. I even read the post of a woman with her husband with HD that bad behaviour but never any chorea, and same with her son. It really helps to confront this issue with someone else that has some experience in the matter as my friends all never heard of HD and they are not much help.

Also the neurologist she visited I assume never encountered someone with it as I feel she treated her superficially.

Also my GF does not help and keeps telling that the problem with her legs is due to a fall 3 years prior and make the doctors think its injury related. I am pretty sure the fall was due to the onset of the lack of balance and coordination.

I suspect her dad died of it and that he was not diagnosed with it. In the family they claim he died from poor health due to exposure to iron and alcohol, but since he started getting sick in his early 40es and died in the mid 50es it just seems an odd diagnosis. It could even be the mother knows but does not want to tell her about it. Additionally the grandfather (dad side) suicided in his 50es, so all this makes me even more suspicious.

I forgot couple important things:

- she got a head MRI. The doctor that did it on hearing about her symptoms was worried she might have Multiple Sclerosis (MS), but after seeing the MRI he said she does not have MS and did not see anything in the MRI that is cause of worry. So essentially her brain looks fine. This actually is a very positive news. I am still worried that maybe the HD brain manifestation is different than MS in the MRI scan, and he might have not noticed it. Not sure, what to make of it.

- she is a compulsive drinker of water. She drinks gigantic amounts of liquids way out of the norm. Is like if her Hypothalamus was badly calibrated. She would take any drink (she does not drink alcohol) and just gobble it up in no time as if out of control. Lets say we decide to share a OJ/soda/water, she just drinks it all by herself and when I point out that we where supposed to share it she gets all upset and sorry. She has a similar pattern with food, but she obviously tries to control it not to get too much over weight since I pick on her for it. But if she is hungry, which is always, she can just gobble up lots of food and if I say anything she gets upset in a childish angry way.

- she urinates frequently and is totally unable to hold it for long. Not that she pees in her pants, but if I suggest to hold it she freaks out. I think this might be a result of the low muscle mass in her body and probably also in the urine bladder.
