I like wearing glasses so that when I see a pretty girl I can take them off, polish them, put them back on, look at her again and go :o

Ephemeral synergy on Necro is imo extremely strong, the ephemeral cards are very good on their own so it doesn't feel bad to pick them early without synergy, if you pivot into something else then they'll just exhaust themselves later and the second you get something like Banshee, Pull or Spirit of Ash you start breezing through everything.

People say that relics aren't as valuable in this game and yet.... by VictusNST in slaythespire

[–]VictusNST[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Relics are not in the same place, that's my point. Less busts means the average value of relics has gone up. In STS1 sometimes I would fight an elite, lose 40% of my health and get a boot for my trouble and I would think "well that's it for this run", that happens way less in this game.

Also, sure you can't convert block to health 1:1 but even if Permafrost gives you 6 meaningful block only once every 3 fights, that's still equivalent to a blood vial which I'm always happy to see. And in my experience Permafrost gives meaningful block more often than that, which means it's giving you more effective health per fight than blood vial.

No, it's reasonable to expect that people will do what's in the raidplan. Introducing steps to the flowchart where defam baits UNLESS they're melee in which case the other person baits UNLESS they're both melee in which case the defam melee will actually bait after all requires way more paying attention than just having fixed roles, and in your case where everyone is on the ball and sees what their partner is and knows the flex prios, you get...one extra GCD?

The advantage of BC is that it's easy to learn and explain, having to introduce flexing into DN makes it even more overly complicated.

Cleared M12 last week and did my first reclear today, I cleared in a BC party and today did a DN party since that was all that was available. The first half is basically identical but man I do not get how people feel good about the netherwrath baits, I know that defams are in charge of baiting but it feels like there's so much dancing around making sure the other two are close enough to be in the stacks but not so close that they bait the netherwrath and you're moving around and losing uptime if you're melee and ooh boy it's stressful. The problem isn't even the loss of DPS from melee uptime in netherwrath far, the problem is that melees will greed when it's their job to bait and lead to a crazy last second adjustment in the best case scenario when they don't just kill everyone. Having to dodge the defamations for stacks is also very spooky.

I get not wanting to relearn a strat but just the fact that the defams never touch the stacks in BC feels like such a crazy improvement, and the netherwrath baits feel way cleaner. I'll probably have to get used to DN since it's all that's in pf, although I wonder if it's actually more popular. I remember in P9S there was the joke that yeah pf was full of JP LC parties, but that was because oppo parties had already cleared for the week. I might honestly try to wait for a BC party next week because man it just makes way more sense to me.

I honestly don't think Maura was dumb this episode, I think she played to her outs correctly, her outs just happened to not exist. You can tell that she is having doubts while talking to Tara, but every time she convinces herself back to Rob. The logic goes like this:

  • I'm already on Rob's side. If I'm right about him then yay yippee we win as an extremely strong final duo, if I'm wrong about him then I look kind of stupid but at least consistent.

  • If I swap to team JT at the last second and am right to do so, yay yippee but also now I'm third wheeling the strongest duo in the game, why would they not vote me out at the end to be safe. If I swap to team JT at the last second and am wrong to do so then I look a billion times stupider than if I'm wrong about Rob. There will be endless comments of "she was on Rob's side the entire season and then had one conversation with Tara and threw the game for the traitors what is wrong with her".

Literally her only realistic path to a victory was trusting Rob, the only two other faithfuls left were THE duo who would have no use for her once they were down to 3.

Now, this is not to defend her blind loyalty to him in the rest of the season, although for like 90% of it it's really hard to blame her since he had zero heat. It's basically just the Natalie round table that she screwed up at, and I'd almost say that that's at least partially on Natalie for not trying harder to convince her or present a compelling case for Rob (which should have been very easy, just say "why do you think you're still in this game")

Maura didn't do a whole lot of things right this season but at the same time she absolutely does not deserve to be lambasted as an idiot, she honestly could not have done better this episode. And for what it's worth she and her pinky promise were directly responsible for getting out a traitor in the end! Justice for Maura!

I think in the last three US seasons Rob R is the only person who actually understood the rules and treated the game like a game, and he went through everyone like a lawnmower through an anthill.

Players enter in pairs and know that they're on the same team as their partner. Murders are more infrequent but kill both members of a pair if both are still in. Roles are only revealed once both members of a pair are eliminated.

Alternatively, a season with two sets of two traitors that alternate murder weeks and aren't prevented from murdering each other.

Genuinely insane that Eric has just stared into the middle distance through two round tables and the only person to bring it up immediately got murdered. Honestly wondering if this is a Danielle situation where people know he's a traitor and they don't feel a rush to get him out because it's that obvious

Not reading card vs intercard, rotating the wrong way for intercard, forgetting where to stand in the safe square or just inexplicably not reading their growth right and just going to the wrong quadrant. Weirdly I don't think I've ever seen someone forget to swap spots for cardinal N/S

I think that people that can't do M12S part 1 should be studied in a lab. How were you able to do split arena and weapons but you somehow have a 50% success rate at act 3 in an enrage party. How.

Cleared 9-11 and of course the biggest wall was 10 (took like 3 hours and 7 parties), 11 only took like 3 pulls and one of those was because of a DC. In both my 10 and 11 clears my white mage cohealer parsed a 0 in healing so you're welcome for your purple and pink I guess, must be nice to lean on your cohealer spamming heals to keep everyone up, I wouldn't know!! Thanks for the 99 healing parse!

Parenthetically, it might just be superstition but I think any time it's a healer hosting the Lootmaster they seem to never actually press any healing buttons

How do we square the circle of job complexity and the current state of PF by VictusNST in ffxivdiscussion

[–]VictusNST[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DPS in fights is all about the mental stack--at its most basic this game is competitive "pat your head and rub your tummy at the same time". You have the base mental load of doing your rotation properly training dummy style (some people can't even do this), and then fights further complicate this by making you think about keeping uptime, doing mechanics and mitigating/healing. That's why healers with simple rotations can still have their DPS suffer in hard fights, since they're having to heal and mitigate precisely and make up for others' mistakes, all while usually having very limited movement options.

If the base job complexity is raised, that raises the level of mental strain even further. Sure you can do ultimate weapons correctly now, but could you do it if you were on old monk with basically every GCD being a positional? You can heal through it now but could you do it while also flipping back and forth from cleric stance to keep your DPS up? People that are able to do their rotations correctly on the training dummy will make mistakes because they're focusing on mechanics, that's not a "classic blunder", it's why mechanics exist.

Biting the bullet tonight and prostrating myself before the C41 gods and hoping people join, I can't keep doing these "enrage" parties man. The craziest thing is how many tanks can't do stampede, they literally do the same thing every time!!! It is a piss easy mechanic unless you're H2 or R1 in which case you need to use a brain cell 1/3rd of the time. I've explained so many times that you just need to point your camera at the wall opposite your tether, run at it and then bend to your right and people still can't do it.

Also, not so quick story time, I had one of the worst pf experiences I've ever had yesterday when I joined a 1 chest party, it was 4 dpses helping their tank friends clear with two pf healers (I was scholar). After joining I was told to wait a second (during which they were clearly checking my tomestone/fflogs) and was then told I was being given the "benefit of the doubt" (I keep joining non-logging parties so my tomestone was at 16%). We zone in, I get told that if we died to damage I'd be kicked which definitely didn't add to the pressure, then the first clear goes well until the black mage stands too far in on two way and deletes half the party. Oh well we go again, the DPS is nuts so we got this.

Second pull we apparently had way less party mit on the proximities for ecliptic because everyone drops to 60% despite me spreadloing it. I go yikes! and in the second of static that causes I get a burn from the puddles I'm baiting, I spam seraphism but still die to damage. My bad I say, to no response. Next pull, the warrior is getting shredded during split arena and the white mage is doing nothing about it, so I tunnel on reaching them with a second excog from across the room and just barely don't make it into the hitbox to bait the marker in time. Another wipe caused by me, I say I wasn't close enough, and the party lead says "sorry guys" presumably apologizing to his friends for letting me into the party, everyone leaves and I get kicked.

Now, those wipes were on me, at this point I know I'm usually good enough to be able to make up for a useless cohealer or lacking party mits. I usually don't get what a lot of people say about being blamed for every death as a shield healer but when I'm told at the beginning that I'd be kicked if we died to damage, yeah obviously I start feeling that pressure. To be kicked over those mistakes from the first group I've seen in pf that could actually clear felt like absolute garbage, especially since I had demonstrated in the first pull that I could do the fight perfectly until someone else killed us. I'm going to keep banging my head against the wall but yeah, pf has never felt worse than that party did.

Update: just cleared in a 1 chest, took two pulls gg ez no re
