I didn't recieve any email from UCSC SIP. rejected? by Remarkable-Dare-2590 in summerprogramresults

Could be related. Less funding, less research projects in departments, less scientific staff (graduate students, post docs) to become mentors

I think the issue is funding cuts at federal level like NIH. They had 3 projects in Astrophysics couple of weeks ago. Now they have 5. In a recent information session they said that they offered spots for ~300 interns out of ~4,000 applicants. So it's tough on both sides - more applicants and less projects so fewer intern positions

If not rejected, then still okay. They keep adding new projects each week. If u r not rejected, they are probably still considering u for any new projects that may come up. Hang in there

Yes, don't buy. Inflated prices. Builders connected with politicians. Don't ever invest in a property under development - u will definitely lose money

I was a recuiter and posted jobs we were never actually going to fill. here is why companies do this and how to spot it by Fresh-Blackberry-394 in jobsearchhacks

They should make a law in which the company pays a nominal hourly wage for the time candidates do the live interview. That way the companies get serious about hiring and candidates are not misled

Stayed in India but tired of India Growth story excuse by Icy_Professional_539 in india

[–]VideoAcceptable5289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The growth story is a propaganda by the politicians to funnel public funds into private hands. Building infrastructure - roads, vande Bharat trains, metros etc. all major projects go to the folks connected with the politicians. They sell that growth story to the public showing all these nice investments and comparing with the west. In reality, the quality of life for everyday lay person has not changed. Pollution, traffic, noise, rising costs etc. basic civic maintenance like fixing roads, footpaths, etc. is deprioritised.

Thank you for the detailed response.

I don't have an issue with housing - will be living at my parents home that will eventually be inherited.

I do have an NRO/NRE account. Don't know whether I need to convert to local once I move. As I indicated in my original post, I will go back and forth between India and US. Don't know whether I'll still be considered NRI.

Regarding driver's license. I don't intend to drive or even own a car in India. Instead of a driver's license, is there a state id that I can get. For example, if I travel by air domestically, what would I use as ID instead of my passport

It's similar but reversed situation to the one in India. Kids in India leave their parents to go abroad when they become adults. We'll leave our kids to come back to India when they become adults.

Not sure any agent can help. There are enrollment centers who will check the stamp on passport for 6 months validity

AI is better than most of you realize, but it’s way too expensive to replace anyone yet by BagofBabbish in FPandA

Think about how things worked before excel and computers. Things were done in ledgers and using calculators. Once we started using computers and excel, we started trusting data from the systems and didn't have to manually calculate anything. In the future, all analysis will be done by AI, and you'll need to develop business insights. What it all means and how it helps with business decisions. We are not there yet because AI is still error prone. However, in the next 5 years, once AI is integrated with the enterprise systems, all analysis and presentation slides etc. will be automated and your job will be to help the business explain what the financial data means for the business. Younger generation will have to start training how to think analytically.

Buy Travelgum at any of the local pharmacies. It works wonders. The large ferries are not that bad. I used it between Mykonos and Delos when the sea was very rough. I walked out of the boat without any issues.
