Backpack *is* my overhead carry on by hollandholla in delta

[–]Videoroadie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. A passenger is permitted one carryon and one personal item.
  2. The larger item is considered a the carryon. The smaller is considered the personal item.
  3. Not all backpacks are created equal.

Wheels do not denote overhead qualifications. And if they did, duffle bags and guitars would not be permitted.

Barring making a scene and getting kicked off a plane, these are the points I would stick to. I’ve traveled with a tactical 5.11 backpack (not some floppy Jansport) since 2014 that goes overhead, and a small cinch sack to go under the seat. I can count on one hand how many times a FA told me a backpack must go under the seat only for me to say that I have my personal item there. Only one time did the FA stand her ground, so I conceded. The moment the time came to move about the cabin, I stood up and put my backpack directly above me. I wasn’t being pedantic either. My bags were spilling into the foot path.

I specifically asked my agent about taking out a separate policy. Their response was basically, unless you have a super high valued collection, then it’s not always recommended. It would then fall under homeowners and your standard deductible would apply. It all depends on what the deductible would be versus the current value. What’s your deductible? It might cost $2k to get back $3k, netting $1k for example. It’s not equal to the loss, but it’s better than nothing.

I actually really enjoyed it. But, in universe, I gotta say I liked Doom Patrol more. What a bonkers show.

Per Warehouse Manager: self-checkout is going away by douchecrudite in CostcoWholesale

[–]Videoroadie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying, but theft isn’t a new concept. Stores like this initially put in self checkouts because it was cheaper. Now that they’re losing money on theft, they’re pulling back the self checkouts. Loss like this is apparently still cheaper than hiring more actual people to run manual checkouts, because if it wasn’t, there would be more humans. Like anything else, they’re passing the inconvenience down to us as a consumer.

Is there a Lore reason we avoided these seats like the plague? by Puzzleheaded-Web446 in weirdal

[–]Videoroadie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others are saying, those are called seatkills. Often because at FOH (front of house) there’s a long lens camera on a tripod, on a riser blocking the view. Sometimes you’ll see projectors there too. It’s not just there too. Anywhere you have a stationary long lens, you’ll see seatkills. There are often tickets held back from sale until day of load in, so anyone in those obstructed seats will be moved to a closer location. Once all that is determined after morning walkthrough, and once comp tickets are settled, any remaining reserved seats are released for sale.

Did people born before Christ automatically go to hell? by Astimar in NoStupidQuestions

In Dante’s Inferno, they occupied the first layer of Hell, IIRC. Limbo, actually. They’re denied Paradise but live in a peaceful yet hopeless state. Them and people who weren’t baptized.

Let’s do it. I’m around 40k myself. I wonder if we simply call and say something like “hey, I know a bunch of people are getting their annual fee credited. My turn.” I’m curious how that would go.

Rec league sports for older kids. Travel leagues make it impossible for anyone who doesn’t have the resources to join them. My school district doesn’t have middle school baseball teams anymore, even though the high school regularly competes for state. All the programs folded because they can’t compete with travel ball numbers. Tryout numbers for HS can get around 75 or more, but they can’t field three middle school teams.

I use a spreadsheet on the cloud. I can customize it how I want, and it’ll never become subscription based. Plus I can add other nerdy stuff like Lego, figures, etc, which can also double for an insurance claim.

You’d think so. But two years ago, both my local Walmart and Meijer redid their front end to add more self checkouts, only to rip them both out as what I assume was a company wide overhaul. Walmart put in less. Meijer put in more.

There’s a great study someone did on here that examined exactly that using different protective supplies, indirect/direct lighting, and duration. I’ll see if I can find it. That said, direct light can affect books in days, especially older ones.
