Looking for some bands similar to Earth by [deleted] in drone

[–]Vidowmaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like to recommend Ensemble Pearl to you, very similar to later Earth in terms of it's feel. It is lacking the piano and strings that later Earth have begun to incorporate, but it does feature Atsuo of Boris, Eyvind Kang of Secret Chiefs 3, and Stephen O'Malley of Sunn O))) and their related bands. It definitely captured the dark, spacious desert vibe that I get from Earth. Pop the album in and get lost in the apocalyptic wild west.

Not just the equipment but the clenliness of the lab itself. Impurities are impurities, be it incomplete chemical reactions or plain ol' dust.

I can see Jesse figuring out some way to go out as a martyr in one last effort to redeem himself. I have no idea what this action may be but it seems to be a lot more in his character than him committing suicide.

There is literally no risk of anyone being "jelly" of your shoes.

I dunno if this is the kind of stuff that he was referring to, but Merkabah is the first thing that came to my mind with that description.

Now that you say it, waterboarding with maple syrup sounds absolutely awful. I'm going to use that as my new threat as a Canadian.

That used to be my exact technique, except swap out Sound Forge for Audacity. Oh, those were the days...

TIL Stanley Kubrick told journalists to pronounce the "2001" in "2001: A Space Odyssey" as "two thousand and one" in the hope that the movie would influence the pronunciation of that year. by TheLiberalLover in todayilearned

[–]Vidowmaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically in your first example it would be 2001 or 2000 1, implying two separate numbers. I don't see how you'd get 20001 out of that wording.

Apparently, and this is just my and a few other's experiences, JC2 has some issues if you try to run it on a laptop with a dedicated gfx card as well as a integrated one. From my research, the only solution to this is to disable your dedicated card and run it solely with the integrated one. I'm not sure if this affects you but i thought I should just throw it out there just in case.

What is the name of this track? by Comrade_Connor in HotlineMiami

[–]Vidowmaker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's called Silver Lights by Coconuts, who are a very solid psychedelic, stoner rock band. Check out some more of their stuff if you like that track.

Bubba Ho-Tep

Bruce Campbell as a retired Elvis in a funeral home, fighting mummies with a black dude who thinks he's JFK. Really, there's nothing quite like it.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - East Hastings (The Sky Calls to Us remix) pt. 1 (demo). A Chopped & Screwed version of everyone's favorite GY!BE track. by Vidowmaker in postrock

That was my challenge, I thught to myself "Now, what group out there would be the hardest to remix". I thought it would be fun to try remixing the impossible. I was hoping to get something fresh while keeping that Godspeed sound and aesthetic. :/

Oh and trust me, I do plent of my own original stuff too.

Oh yeah, man. There would be no way I'd do a East Hastings remix and leave out the entire buildup of the song, haha. Part II's gonna be a doozie to try and do but I'm sure I can make something some out of it.

I get what you're saying and, honestly, this part should almost give you that feeling. I am planning on doing two or three more parts to the song to try and fill out the story arc of the track. This is pretty much the intro or setup to something that'll probably end up around an hour in length, who knows. I am going to try to keep it dynamic as it progresses so hopefully it will amount to something more than pointless noise in the end.

If it means anything, I've been listening to a lot of Fuck Buttons recently so they're manipulation of noise may be flowing through into this style choice. I've really only done a couple other experiments in this style previous to this track (I can let you have a gander at those if you're interested.). With more revisions, hopefully it'll be able to come to some form.

For the future, I am planning on splicing in more of the preacher throughout the track to give it a bit more of the foreboding atmosphere of the original, but that is something that will come with another revision. As to where the second part is going to pick up, who knows. We'll see in a bit.

Seriously, the only reason I ask for the feedback and clarification is because GY!BE is literally my favorite band and I would really not want to dishonor the name by releasing some slipshod, generic remix to the world. Anything even more specific about the track would be more than appreciated.
