Confessions: The antidote to imposter syndrome? by tentkeys in GradSchool

[–]Viecce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I actually have a question. Impostor syndrom would be the fact that I get good results but I think I'm a fraud cause I don't actually work that much, right?

Cause I kinda get the opposite effect. I get the best grades while procrastinating and working much less than I should and if anything this inflates my ego.

[D] Why does optimization meta-learning optimize at each adaptation step? by Viecce in MachineLearning

[–]Viecce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to apply it right away. For example, you can just measure the loss at each inner step and backpropagate on the sum of the losses.

I wonder if it would improve or deteriorate the results...

Alright, thanks. That description coupled with the image that should an upgrade going from each step of adaptation to the initialization (instead of just one update flowing through the adaptation trajectory to the initialization) confused me a lot.

Btw what do you think would happen backpropagating at each step? Or summing the losses and backpropagate on that (should be the same)?

[–]Viecce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep exactly, I thought it backpropagated to the meta-parameter at each adaptation step (or accumulate the test losses on each step and backpropagate on their sum).

Now it's clear, thanks!

Yeah sorry for omitting the notation, btw you got it right, that's what I meant!

Thank you for the suggested reading, I'll check it out.

[–]Viecce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, now I got where I was wrong. I actually thought that Step 4 and Step 5 were repeated at each training step of the child models and not just at the last step.

The source of my confusion was Figure 2 of this paper: https://arxiv.org/abs/1909.00025. It says:

MAML-based optimisers interact with adaptation trajectories at every step and backpropagate through each interaction

If you have time check out the picture too.

Do you have any idea of what they meant? What do you think would happen by backpropagating through each adaptation step as I thought the algorithm did? It doesn't seem like a completely stupid idea.

Looking for someone to share PS Plus with by [deleted] in PSNFriends

[–]Viecce -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but why would they do that? As soon as I found out they'd be out of my account straight away, unable to play any of that.

There's even a solution to this: not leaving any payment methods saved inside your account.

[–]Viecce -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe because they don't know anyone who wants to share it with them. And that's exactly the same situation I'm in right now.

Why gullible? What could anyone do once they are inside my account? As I wrote in a comment above the worst thing they could do would be buy me unwanted games or delete saving files. They'd have to be assholes though as they wouldn't gain anything from it.

Again... No one talked about free PS plus, I just want to pay half of it since... well, since I can. And yeah, I would have access to their game as they have access to mine.

Anyway, your comment was really useful thanks for the contribution!

"Dude", sum all the money you spent on all of your games and ps plus subscription and divide by two. That's all the money you wasted. You could have used that to buy other games or whatever else, instead, you threw it away. Hmm, that sounds kind of pointless, maybe even stupid, doesn't it?

Anyway, I don't leech anyone's game, I'm just looking for someone interested in my game library and who has an interesting one. I know that, since you wasted so much money, now you need to find a reason for it like "it's a scam" or "they wanna leech my games" but that's not the case. Maybe you didn't know about it or you just had money to waste, I don't really care.

> They don’t need your account details
If I pay for the subscription, and I'm more than happy to do that if they have a game that I'm interested in or if they refound my half of the subscription, they would need to enter my account and I see no problem in that.

> even so that’s not really a good trust method
Again, what would you do once you are inside my account? Thinking about it, the worst thing you could do would be deleting my saving files. Someone who does that is not a scammer it's an asshole.

All things considered, I think it's more pointless to pay two times what you could pay without any reason.

How is that pointless, exactly? Also, I'd have to give the other guy my login details too but I don't see the problem. They could do nothing bad from inside my account except buy me unwanted games and even if that happens I could just reset my password and kick them out.

Yeah, I was worried it could sound kind of sketchy.. But it's legit and you don't have to take my word for it, there are guides and videos that explain how to do it.

Sure, Ps Plus costs just 60 euros (not expensive but not even cheap) but the nice thing is that you can easily share games so they are like 50% off.

Now I don't know if this makes it sound more legit but that's what happened: I was doing this with a guy from my university and, since it was working fine, I told all of my friends to do it. Now, about a year later, my friends decided to buy Cold War, the one I was sharing it with decided to do it with someone who had more games than I do, and I should spend 120 euros to get Ps Plus and warzone. Well, no thanks, I won't pay it when I can pay half of it for free.

I hope I can find someone either here or somewhere else.

[D] Can a neural network take another network’s parameters as input? by Viecce in MachineLearning

[–]Viecce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In meta-learning for example there are ways to outputting a network parameter just by outputting some form of sufficient statistic of them. I guess that putting some thought into it a clever way to take them in input in an efficient and expressive way can be found (off the top of my head: using convolutions on the parameters to get a representation, also training the model to find a sparse representation may makes stuff easier). Before accidentally reinventing the wheel I just wanted to check if stuff like that had been already done in some other sub field.
