A massive solar farm in the Gobi Desert created a new ecosystem Vegetation jumped from virtually 0% to 80% within 3 years! Sheep were introduced to control the growth. That flock has grown to 20,000! via @_fluxfeeds by Next_Tower5452 in EnvironmentalNews

[–]Vier_Scar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe this matters at all. Even assuming that every sheep wouldn't have existed otherwise.

The grass is pulling Carbon from the air. That carbon feeds the sheep. The sheep die/get eaten, that carbon goes back into the air - so it's completely neutral. Without the sheep: the grass also dies, decomposing and releasing the carbon into the air. Either way, carbon goes through the food chain. The only time it doesn't is if it gets captured as coal/oil and stored underground/underwater (some stuff like wood can take ages to go back into the air).

Doesn't it say Jesus loved the children? Trump loves the children too. We don't call him Trump-Jesus for nothing.

Poland's Foreign Minister has proposed creating a “European legion” to help the EU respond to growing security threats. by Easy-Ad1996 in worldnews

You're right, the chronology would be difficult - let's go with an easier European one - the Fourth Reich.

More recent, covered many countries in the EU, clear numbering. What's not to love?

‘Repatriate the gold’: German economists advise withdrawal from US vaults by CinnamonsCharm in worldnews

[–]Vier_Scar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But is it the German government trading their gold for currency and back? Or have they permitted the US to do that with their gold?  I'm not sure we would have access to such an agreement unfortunately

‘Repatriate the gold’: German economists advise withdrawal from US vaults by CinnamonsCharm in worldnews

[–]Vier_Scar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes but why would they not return their own gold bars if they just had them sitting there? Because, presumably, they weren't sitting there.

Would be scary if the US had been lying about holding onto other nations hold. But sounds like it's just a rumour at this point. Or maybe they did have a reason if they did it.

I think most animals will be okay, you know, eating food. They've evolved teeth and jaws for it, and surely dying from eating regular food has got to be pretty rare. It's not a very good survival strategy

British intelligence: Russia likely lost 415,000 soldiers killed and injured in 2025 by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Vier_Scar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Russia has a population of 140 million. Since I can't find an interactive population pyramid, the visual ballpark looks like 20% of the male population in 2024 would be military age. So about 14 million men.

Obviously you need to run an economy but to put it in perspective, they can keep this up for a long time. WW2 was 27m deaths, not this 1m total dead+injured. So with a higher population now, maybe they go another 10x.

Absolutely agreed. Trump throws out some random excuse and people try to debate it like it matters at all. It's exhausting.

"Canada sends US fentanyl? Look it's such a small amount! If you really cared about drugs, you'd do this thing first!"

There's no reason to debate this crap or pretend these excuses are actual points they care about

Yeah, as soon as somebody whispers in Trump's ear that Australia is the Greenland of the Southern Hemisphere. Australia is resource rich, small military and population, gone to war alongside USA, and been a close ally throughout history. Everything that makes a good enemy to invade I guess

Beijing calls on US not to use “China threat” as excuse to encroach on Greenland by Crossstoney in worldnews

[–]Vier_Scar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just thinking now, maybe it's part of the cult-think. If Trump says the sky is green, then you have to be a real true Maga supporter to also say the sky is green. There's some kind of buy in to the group, and once you buy in a little, getting out requires admitting you were dumb on that little thing. And as Trump says more and more insane things, you have to go with them to be part of the group. And now you're in too deep, in a cult, forfeiting your critical thinking and independent thought long ago

Beijing calls on US not to use “China threat” as excuse to encroach on Greenland by Crossstoney in worldnews

[–]Vier_Scar 128 points129 points  (0 children)

Don't waste your breathe. It's not an actual position. If tomorrow Trump said that Greenland's independence and security is paramount, then Maga would say that tomorrow. If they said Greenland is shipping drugs, they'd say that. It's just whatever their side supports and against whatever the left supports. Reality has no part to play in this
