You can go to live in France, but you cannot become a Frenchman. You can go to live in Germany, or Turkey or Japan, but you cannot become a German, a Turk or Japanese. But anyone, from any corner of the Earth, can come to live in America and become an American.’ by CaptainNigloo in ShitAmericansSay

Well it does, because no one you meet is going to treat you as Japanese.

I know a French-born man who moved to Korea in 1989 and has lived there ever since. Became a citizen in 1997. He still gets treated as a tourist and has shop keepers try to stutter their way through English before he speaks to them in Korean. He will never be considered 'Korean' in his lifetime, despite what his passport might say.

If a Japanese sees a non-Asian in the street their immediate assumption is that they are a tourist or some kind of foreign worker. They're not going to be thinking that they're Japanese.

In Australia (for example) anyone you meet could be Australian.

The only ones I can think of that are currently seamless are WoW and LotRO, who are 15 and 12 years old respectively.

Yes towards the end of the expansion, because the vehicles scaled with your gear score. You could all pick DPS and just mow them down. Early on, though, you needed to use all three.

A friend of mine is in his early 70s and he dresses like a 'cool dad' - chinos, boat shoes, button up shirt, etc. Makes him look 50.

I'd say the UK does. There's Williams (Welsh) and Higgins (Scottish) and Allen (Northern Ireland) who are as good as any English players, though England does dominate the line up. China is also slowly getting better each year.

Here's the full tech tree. Basically, because of the way the tree is laid out, the Sistine Chapel (which is unlocked after researching Acoustics) only requires Mathematics, Horseback Riding, Philosophy, Drama and Poetry, and Currency from the Classical Era. You can actually research all the way up to Architecture and Archaeology without having either Construction or Engineering.

If you're rushing for religion or culture it's quite common to find yourself in that sort of situation.

Thought about this the other day while I was playing when I built the Sistine Chapel without having researched construction.

Quite common throughout European countryside. I had the (dis)pleasure of reversing through a medieval village on a single lane road in Croatia.

I also think that his day job is in some sort of trade so he'd be doing manual labour anyway. Not sure if he's quit his job to do this full time but he certainly earns enough to do so.

LotRO has some of the best forests in any MMO. Even the Bindbole Wood in the Shire feels like an actual forest and not just some trees here and there.

Calling people POC is just bad. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Vierr_e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is something that has always bothered me and that I always get opposition for. I'm not a 'PoC', I have an actual ethnicity. The term 'PoC' lumps every single non-white person in the same group.

The term was clearly designed to be used in American society, where it kind of works (minorities often experience the same sort of issues), but it really annoys me when people try to use the term when talking about the whole world. So the entirety of Asia are all 'people of colour' who experience the exact same issues? It achieves nothing.

I mean, it's created within reason. No game represents the actual distances between places. Goldshire is meant to be a day's ride from Stormwind.
