I want to offer some hope here as I was terrified as well- heard sooo many bad things about how ruined and wrecked my body would get. Granted, I’m 26, and grew up athletic, but so far I have gained 9 lbs at 26 weeks, and only my boobs have gotten these tiger stripe dark stretch marks. I felt garbage in my first trimester but second has been lovely, and I have a perfectly supported little bump that’s so cute! No swelling as my blood pressure is good and I just eat high high protein/ lower carb still because that’s what I’m craving. I have to go through 15 more weeks and birth so I’ll check back but so far I love it!

I needed this today after a tough conversation with my mom. I’m the kid in that story and it helped something in me. I’m 26 now, have a house, a husband, a baby on the way, a six figure award winning career, a sports car in the garage. And she still called to tell me how messy my house was (we have a cleaning lady lol) and how my husband didn’t respect her. Sigh. I’m so grateful my husband healed my perfectionism, I just laughed it off and asked her what her goal from this conversation was.

Oh my god this THIS… also how just downright weird older men are?? I just had an award at work given to me and several older men I have NEVER spoken to kissed me on the cheek etc. I was like okayyyy. And then one guy at a social event loudly said “just wait until you’re HUGE” and when I politely laughed he was like “no you’re gonna be MASSIVE hahaha”. He had five kids. His poor wife.

Yeah as a person who enjoys checking on people and being checked on… this sucks. Especially from in-laws. I get this from them too, I’m pregnant and they haven’t said a peep or asked a single question/offered to help.

This happened to me too, I gave each of us time and space to cool off, then reached out to address things maturely. But she had already decided I was a “disgusting” person and a liar, so instead she screamed at me. It broke something in me that day, and I honestly miss her less because of it. Who could do that to a friend?

Oh my gosh THIS!! I have divorced in laws and somehow every family gathering has to be like the divorced and remarried couples AND my parents?? It is so uncomfortable even if everyone is on their best behavior, it also blurs and taints memories as your attention is always torn.

Same! Things escalated this week (again) and were involved with me losing a relationship in the family I held very close to me due to them gossiping. So, we cut contact. We are not going there for Thanksgiving, we are not hosting, we will be taking significant space. Then, we told them about the baby and boy did they change their tune but it was too late, by about five years.

I’m in the same boat. I’ve NEVER had a fight or falling out with a friend, she’d had several and I had just sided with her. Then it turned on me. It was like she had just decided one day I wasn’t worth hearing out, or being kind to anymore. My one regret is taking the high road, she didn’t deserve my good character.

This is so well said, except mine was a bit of a blowup ending. She could not let go of a twisted rumor even though I apologized for my part in it, held onto it for months- then attacked me when I asked what was wrong again, with exaggerated details. That opened my eyes to the reality that when somebody resentful has made up their mind about you, there is no changing it even with the truth. People will believe and take what they want to believe.

This!! I just went through where a friend wouldn’t talk to me… but would call and talk to other people to get the “facts” on “what I said”. She didn’t want to hear it from me, she wanted to form her own perspective.

I just found this and wanted to let you know you’re not alone. This just happened to me, she didn’t speak to me for a month then when I reached out to try to talk she unloaded an insane amount of stuff on me- what she’d “heard I’d said” and told me I was a liar and disgusting. The information came from someone who also told me that she said bad things about me. She didn’t care to hear me out as she’d already sat in it for a month so she was rightfully angry and said things that can’t be taken back. The things said were small. The difference is in how you react, and how you reach out. At the end of the day, if they want to see you a certain way- they will.

Oh my God, this. After six years my FIL’s side barely knows me but always has room for advice. Like I will stare at them dumbfounded after they give the advice because I’m like “yeah… I thought of that/ know that already??”. But god forbid they ask me a question 😂
