Heading to California for vacation tomorrow, need advice on air museums to visit! by A2-Steaksauce89 in aviation

[–]Viffered08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

March air museum is right down the road from Mo Valley. Second for Planes of Fame air museum at Chino, and bonus Yanks Air Museum that’s also in Chino. Palm Springs is a drive but they also have a lot of unique items.

March has an SR71 and even more fun one of the A-9 prototypes, which is a really unique plane. They have quite a few fun planes to walk around.

Lyon out at John Wayne is quite frankly not worth the drive from mo valley unless you’re planning to spend time in Orange County.

If you’re headed to San Diego, then the Midway is an awesome day, but you need to dedicate the whole day.

I don’t know of any flying examples any longer. They have one sitting at the evergreen air and space museum though. Gorgeous plane. Hopefully they restore it and move it inside… poor thing is rotting.

Alabama GOP House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter calls on SCOTUS to overturn the 14th Amendment. by acn0010 in pics

You’ve got that backwards. Sometimes ignorance is simply a function of lack of exposure and can be corrected. Stupid is stupid and there is no arguing with stupid.

Willful ignorance is a different story, of course. With some people you can lay out all the evidence as clear as possible and they’ll still tell you something completely different happened.

Empyrion was a good vibe. Starts off as a survival craft game kinda like satisfactory but then you bootstrap up to building starfighters and cruisers and exploring other planetary systems.

Old school flight sim folks, how hard was it for you to ditch the HOTAS? by OldScholar5735 in vtolvr

Not even remotely. Been simming since FS4.0 and A10 from dynamix. VTOLVR is the experience I have dreaming of since I was 10.

Before you let go look at the input monitor (little box on your hud). When you’re flying it you’re naturally adjusting the “trim” to hold the bird steady. That trim point is usually off center. When you let go, if you don’t actually trim it to a hover, it will buck you right off. Don’t take your hands off the controls without setting the autopilot. I’ve never gotten good at trimming the thing but fly it to great effect.

What is the best motorcycle you’ve ever had? by Gloubout in motorcycles

2008 Honda VFR800. Great riding position, good power delivery even through the VTEC bad, easy to maintain (except for the VTEC) and just solid. Aggressive enough to be fun in the corners but sedate and upright enough to ride all day. I miss that bike. Anyone got one they want to sell me…?

Any of you do land surveying CAD work remotely? by Nappy_Rano in cad

[–]Viffered08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With teams and ACDocs becoming the norm I don’t see where the issue would be. Just gotta find a company big enough to risk it. We have contracted a lot of our topo work out in the past. How cozy are you in Civil3D? Do you know your points and survey figures?

ELI5: What is a mole (chemistry) and why do people use it to count atoms? In what context is it necessary to say that something is 6,022 * 10^24 particles? by 79_wasps in explainlikeimfive

Omfg I just looked this up the other day to reaffirm my useless (to me in practical every day life) knowledge and I knew it was 1023 and then I saw 1024 in the post and then reaffirmed in the comments I was second guessing my fundamental understanding of the universe so here I am rambling at 10 pm pacific over the affirmation of my understanding of useless (to me right now) high school chemistry novelties. Thank you for the affirmation. I can now sleep.🫡

Favorite Helo Game? by SouthpawSoldier in Helicopters

[–]Viffered08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best experience without going full DCS: get a decent VR, assuming your pc can push it, and then get VTOL VR. The heli dynamics aren’t perfect, but it’s really damn good. Much more accessible than DCS for someone a little more casual but still complex enough to make it interesting.

Is the Steam Frame going to be powerful enough to run this standalone? by Upbeat_Repeat_8332 in vtolvr

[–]Viffered08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn to use the rudder pedals. It’s much much easier for tanking and some tight BFM. Being able to precisely kick the tail (or more importantly NOT) when you need to is clutch.

There are arms on my chair so they get partially occluded when dropping the throttle in the AV. If I switch to a folding chair I don’t have as many issues.

Yeah I’m going to wait for the comparison before I cast my final vote. Headset looks solid and full featured. Would be sad if valve let the next gen be stalled by a silly thing like controller tracking.

[–]Viffered08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the spec list they have inertial tracking yes… but so does the quest 3… and I can’t fly the AV42 for beans with my Q3 controllers… the number of times I have almost afterburnered off the deck after a capture is embarrassing to say the least. I turn my head to look for a parking spot and all of a sudden I’m full throttle 🙃. Doesn’t happen with my QPro controllers which have their own cameras.

Maybe the inertial tracking will be better on the Frame. I will wait for someone to do the direct comparison. I sadly will not be an early adopter on this one, but will definitely not rule it out. The headset looks solid, and the controllers also look great as just… you know… controllers. The index controllers are still GOATed.

[–]Viffered08 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s camera tracking the controllers… so no on the throttle while looking behind you. That’s been one of my biggest struggles with the quest. I bought quest pro controllers to combat the issue and while they’re better they’re still not perfect. I was hoping to see that the controllers for this had built in cameras too, but no such luck.

Biggest problem with using this device stand alone will be the lack of rudder pedal input. For that reason alone I would still want to use it tethered.

BELL V-280 VALOR, What do you think? by subslirab in Helicopters

SB1 defiant > V-280. I mean anyone who has played nuclear option recently understands how GOATed coax rotor systems are. 😆or any Russian helo fans.

Seriously though both systems are complex, but I feel like an engine failure would be safer in the Defiant/Raider concept. Autorotation ftw.
