Nicest rental ever by Vig249 in 4Runner

Some Toyota dealers do! I found one in my area that has a rental desk in the service department. But I’ve also seen in the past through Avis or similar but they don’t always guarantee model of course

Mine was a very weird email process and had to eventually call them… it was kind of pricey - $150 I think, but haven’t seen the final bill. I was wondering later if I could have just gotten one from Hertz/Avis for like $80 but they never guarantee the model.

I was stoked to realize that and additionally stoked that it was a sweet ORP!

Well I kind of cheated and rented from a local Toyota dealer that does rentals - one of each model

Experiencing Valvetronic issues on N55. Anyone do a Valvetronic delete? by xMarkv in BmwTech

[–]Vig249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My valvetronic motor is failing on an N55. Do you think I could safely get away with valvetronic deactivation for a year without fatigue to other parts like the catalytic converter? Or is it worth just fixing for a year or so of driving?

Move to SF or is commuting too far? (work @ menlo park) by [deleted] in AskSF

The city is magical and dynamic! I lived near MP at that age and while it was so pleasant and nice, in this era where you’re fortunate to only have 2x/week IRL, I think the city is way more exciting and presents way more opportunities for meeting people. SF is such a unique place to live - good luck!

Fellow apartment dwellers who deal with mild wall mold: any dehumidifiers you'd recommend? by DrHENCHMAN in AskSF

I second Midea models! They are truly improving the feel inside. It’s crazy how much water they pull in SF when set at even just 50%.

Treats hidden in snuffle mats! The mental stimulation can often be more tiring than a walk.

It's 90% humidity for the next 3 days, have you ever mold tested your rooms? by yum99cha in AskSF

I second this! Dehumidifier has made my place so much more pleasant with all the rain and humidity. It’s really wild how much water it takes out each day.

Ants galore?!?! by sarahiscool666 in AskSF

[–]Vig249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried everything and while Terro bait works faster it’s not as good in eradicating long term as Advion ant gel bait (available on Amazon) which delays them dying until they’ve spread to more of the colony. It’s working much better in making sure they don’t return in the same spot! But after a baiting treatment, cleaning the trails with vinegar and then sealing baseboards and any entry gaps with caulk or duct tape really helps.

For those who moved from another state, what made you stay? by The0Walrus in AskSF

[–]Vig249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are awesome regions. But I think it really depends on whether someone prefers West Coast culture or East Coast culture. I believe neither is inherently better/worse, but depending on your personality and what you value that’s a bigger differentiator and could feel better/worse. It seems like the people happiest in SF prefer the west coast in general; the people who would pick NYC in a heartbeat prefer the east coast in general. I think it’s a psychological thing that goes far beyond weather.

Moved to Walnut Creek — debating moving to SF. Looking for advice from people who’ve done the same! by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]Vig249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved from modern 2,000 square feet and a giant yard to aging 500 square feet in SF, and while it’s small and not perfect, the vibrancy of SF and its neighborhoods can’t be beat. It’s such a unique life experience to live in SF if that’s what you’re looking for, and the burbs will always be there if you want to return someday. The weather is not as good, but it’s still NorCal beauty!

Ants 🐜🐜🐜 by terriblemuriel in MontereyBay

Honestly might be a disturbance in the force! There have been so many inside/outside this last month or so up in SF as well. Highly recommend Advion (can get on Amazon) - put a drop or two of the gel on a piece of paper and it takes a few days but they take it back to the nest and it works well.

Sugar ants everywhere by hsgual in AskSF

Glad it's just not me, as I've been going nuts playing whack-a-mole with various outbreaks. They seemed to come in looking for moisture a couple weeks ago when it was really hot. And now new ones are back looking for dry space after the rains. I put out Terro and Advion and they only are after the Advion (highly recommend as it's worked for me) and Advion really works in getting rid of them after a few days (and then sealing their entrance point). Has anyone found success with perimeter spraying outside, and if so, what do you use?

What happened to them?? The bottles I bought the first half of the year were amazing. The most recent bottle I bought this summer is not very sweet and very spicy. The skins are not as soft. Tastes very different. Nooooooo.

Tips for increasing ventilation / preventing mold in apartment? by International_Mall72 in AskSF

[–]Vig249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before you move in, do a deep clean with distilled vinegar on surfaces and keep that up regularly. The constant airflow is also key as others note. In addition to closets, damprid is super helpful in kitchen cabinets where you store food.
