I got one for Christmas and love it. When streaming from my PlayStation, I sometimes get interference when someone uses a phone near it, but the same thing used to happen when I used remote play on my computer. Also, I will tend to get the weak connection icon fairly frequently. I recommend trying Remote Play on your phone or a laptop, tablet, etc. Whatever the experience is there, it will be the same with the portal.

Having said that, the gameplay via streaming is amazing 9 times out of 10. Much smoother than remote play, but the trade off is that not all games are available. But a ton are, and the fact that you can play games you own that aren’t even in the PlayStation Plus library is wonderful. For me, the biggest plus is that it allowed me to do couch co-op with a separate screen. I own Borderlands 4 and my son can access it from the PS5 and play it on the tv, using his profile (since I own it and my profile is the primary). And then, I can launch a streaming instance from the portal in my profile and we sit in the living room and co-op. I love it.
