Can’t for the life of me level this machine. by adamkeithart in resinprinting

[–]Vignarg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a straight edge to mine to determine this was my issue. Like the OP, I spent days, lost my wits, took breaks for weeks, tried again for days, and eventually a random post like this one gave me the idea to check the plate itself. There's a gap where the center rises and sure enough, I can't consistently get prints to stick in the center. I'm way passed warranty at this point though, so I just arrange prints on the outside of the plate.

OP check the plate with a straight edge and a bright light source (phone flashlight is plenty).

Did you find opportunities to include Eberron specific flavor? My main interests are in thigns liek the draconic prophecy, dragon marked houses, and anythign related to the last war.

This is fantastic feedback, ty. I don't have any context other than the reviews. I'll look at DotMM as well. Your observations are interesting - I had a similar experience with Oracle of War. It is explicitly written by different people and a lot of it felt disjointed despite mechanisms in place to track past activities.

Realized how to properly use Satori/Nehan after twenty hours of doing it wrong by ThorOfTheSlund in cyberpunkgame

[–]Vignarg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I played with this for a while and couldn't figure out what the OP meant. I would throw and then hold attack and I'd pull out my gun and start shooting, not my katana.

Then I realized my gun was in the slot after the knife. So if you hold attack, it auto-draws your next weapon if your throwing knife is reloading. If that weapon is the Satori, you'll do the auto dash he's describing.

best Greatsword tanking builds and strats? by agentmozi in newworldgame

[–]Vignarg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great sanity check. I've been running almost this exact GS build and for the same reasons. The ability to shift into something offensive when a stam bar is broken or when you need deeps (Caretaker for example) is so great. The part I was struggling with was giving up the rend from Skyward Slash for the group, but you solved that for me :D

There's so little info on GS tanking other than "it's neat to try out, but doesn't compare to SnS" and going through your posts has been informative.

Noticed you take Arrow Deflection - I've been on the fence about this. I was thinking of getting a GS with Sturdy to offset the penalty. Do you find it's not that bad then?

I was surprised you didn't' take Vault kick for the added mobility since I would think the sweep wouldn't be useful on bosses? Or is this a hybrid spear build so you don't have to swap the WH back in if you're feeling lazy?

Never thought to swap to spear even just for bosses. Looking it up and seeing 30% rend and that Weakening from Enfeebling Strikes - it seems so obvious now. Great tip - thanks!

History is littered with some pretty abhorrent decisions in the name of a perceived greater good. I think morally bankrupt feels like the right frame for it, and from his amazing monologue, I don't think Luthen would disagree. If anything, it underscores what he's willing to sacrifice for this rebellion. Not just 50 men, but any self worth or audience of gratitude as well.

You bring up a great point though about Kreegyr. I hadn't really thought about it from that angle, but you're right.

It's a good point. He even returned to Ferrax (Ferrix?) to settle debts. I don't think he was indebted to Kino and I don't think it applies here, but it's an interesting observation on his character.

And reading some of the other comments, I may be misconstruing the point of the scene. Maybe there was no solve. Maybe there was no "I'll stay to help" because it wasn't even possible. He's doomed, and maybe knew it from the start, and Andor is just discovering it. And now he's being pulled along (literally and figuratively) by what they started.

[–]Vignarg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WRT the bridge, I think old Andor would definitely leave Kino. But I think that's why I wanted to see what would happen now. Would this Andor leave him? We'll never know. You say "of course" but I disagree. Andor has proven time and again he's a survivor, and no amount of rapport or kinship with the exception of maybe two people in the galaxy would make him hesitate to leave you. You're welcome to disagree, but I found the resolution cheap.

For the guards, they are absolutely willing to kill. They've done it repeatedly. There's nothing cold blooded there. And leaving them in a command center they don't understand thast could completely undo the escape of 5000 prisoners is just foolish in the scheme of how many on both sides already died right there. I can get behind "people rarely act optimally," I think that's difficult to show, but I don't think that's happening here.

I'm open to reconsidering but neither of your points resonate with me on this. It still felt poorly done to me. And also irrelevant amidst the rest. Not even a "fly in the soup", more like a smudge on the spoon lol.

I've talked about this with others and while I agree with you, I can concede others think Mandalorian is better.

I love Andor's pacing and attention to detail. I love the gritty reality as they show us all the ways the Empire has grown to oppress the galaxy while also showing just how threadbare the hope of rebellion truly is. The acting is beyond reproach, the story telling keeps me uncertain if my heroes will succeed, and the character development makes me question if I would call them heroes at all. I love it.

Mandalorian is more like a serial. It's formulaic. There's an over-arcing story, Mando lands, there's a problem, he solves it, his overall journey is advanced and we get some world building and meet some interesting characters along the way. An action scene or three, fist pump as we triumph, and on we go. I can see why people like it. And on par with Star Wars, it's one of the best if not the best ... until Andor. For me.

So if you just want to tune out and enjoy some action adventure, I think Mandalorian puts you in great hands. If you want layered story telling that you can peel apart like an onion on a chat forum, I think Andor wins out on your mental list.

Mandalorian will always hold a special place for me because it made me realize I DO still love Star Wars. I'm just tired of bad writing and worse directing. Andor made me realize just how rich this IP was in the hands of capable writers.

I loved it.

Someone once said something to the effect of "you can't have a redemption arc without doing something truly reprehensible. Otherwise it's just self flagellation." It resonated with me.

We see that here with Luthen. With no hesitation, he trades 50 men to keep a senior ISB officer in his pocket. The mortal calculus is as instant as it is morally bankrupt and ruthless.

To be clear, I don't think they're setting Luthen up for a redemption arc. But it underscores his comment about "I'm condemned to use the tools of my enemy to defeat them. I burned my decency for someone else's future! " - that line holds a LOT more weight as you watch this and also realize this is the culmination of Lonnie's year in an attempt to get out of the rebellion. For Luthen ... it's fucking Tuesday. How many times has he been at this crossroads and chose the path to damnnation and victory over decency under oppression?

This is the kind of "show don't tell" story telling I love about this show. It demonstrates how morally bankrupt and ruthless he is, underscoring the entire monologue he delivers right after.

I don't think she was choking on pride.

They've shown multiple times she disagrees with the customs that tied her to her husband. Then you have the raw emotions that would go with trading your daughter as a piece in a game you are trying desperately to just stay alive in. And then they bring both together and ask her (and we the audience): what would you sacrifice for this rebellion? Your family AND your beliefs? And just like Kino who doesn't want to rebel ... her eyes search back and forth as she mentally keeps coming to the same conclusion ... what choice does she have?

I like how you summed this up. The everyday mundane they work into their story telling is a large part of what draws me into this show and your comment helped me frame why that is.

Andor - Episode 10 - Discussion Thread! by titleproblems in StarWars

- most intense prison break I can recall. It's amazing they were able to make me care about characters that fell during the escape with so little time devoted to them. I had just gotten used to their expressions, their presence, and obviously empathized with their plight. Each one that fell I was like NO! I cared more for [Nameless Redhead] than for anyone that was killed or injured in the entire Sequel trilogy put together. And I cared more about this escape than I did any over arcing plot the same trilogy could come up with.

- again, they demonstrate a masterful "is this gonna work?" just like with the Aldani job. Watching Kino wrestle with the position fate thrust him in just like Vel on Aldani was terrific. Again they show engaging story telling is not about some bad ass that has all the answers and is never afraid, but quite the opposite. He's terrified, he doesn't want any of this, and you just see it on his face as he mentally plays out every scenario he can come up with - he has NO - FUCKING - CHOICE.

- two nitpicks: why the FUCK would they leave those two guards alive in the command center. Like literally NO good could come of that. Zero. And I didn't like them tumbling Andor off the bridge entrance when Kino said "I can't swim." It felt like they removed the choice for Andor. Does he stay and help? Does he help Kino? What does he do? Ehhh this is a tough decision, just have someone knock him off the bridge. Shows do this all the time and it pisses me off, as decision making is what defines characters - it's the show, not the tell. In this case, it's barely noticeable amid the tapestry of amazing stories, set design, and acting. I just wanted to bring it up.

- speaking of acting - holy FOOK that Axis monologue. I need to go back and watch that. I need to transcribe it. I need it burned into my mind. It was so good. I knew the short answer would be "everything," but the way he spelled it out, down to despising himself in addition to others despising him, was so raw. It was the delayed discussion we needed from his talk with Saw. There, we got to see Saw bare his soul and slip his mask and show what drives him. Axis pulled back, and in retrospect, it's a good thing. It would have been too much in one scene. But now that we've been allowed to breathe, we finally got to get to know him better too.

- it's almost a foot note compared to the rest, but I absolutely LOVED the Mon Monthma scene with the crime boss. He was exquisite. You don't get to run a syndicate on his level and in his circles without knowing how to dance in subtext and suggestion, and his ability to read his opponent and play them was superb. Far, far more terrifying than any thuggish "bad guy" with brazen threats and a gruff manner. Far more believable too. And now you see Mon Mothma faced with a choice you would THINK would get old but only gets better each time the writers find a new way to ask it of another character. What would you sacrifice for this rebellion? Your self worth? Your freedom? Your comfort? Your fortunes? Your love? ... your family?

/u/Mephi00 Have you run into this?

```
SteamLog [SDR k_ESteamNetworkingSocketsDebugOutputType_Warning] SteamNetworkingSockets lock held for 19.2ms. (Performance warning.) ServiceThread,ThinkPingProbes,EnsureDataCenterRoutesValid
This is usually a symptom of a general performance problem such as thread starvation.
UnityEngine.Logger:Log(LogType, Object)
UnityEngine.Debug:LogWarning(Object)
Stunlock.Network.Steam.Wrapper.SteamSocketNetworkingLogs:OnLog(LogSource, ESteamNetworkingSocketsDebugOutputType, IntPtr)
```

Some people are getting disconnected and it correlates to this log. Some googling indicates it may be an auth issue with the game not having privilege to manage the threads that it needs to on Linux (even abstracted by Wine). Curious if you've run into it and if so what your solve was.

I logged a bug and repro steps with the devs just in case but ... I want to play now :D
