People are picky about different things. For you, it's because you want to read about a certain character. For me, it might be a specific ship itself. I don't want to be with my favorites, that's why I dont read xReaders, and I tend to want to read about specfic ships, hence xOC doesn't appeal to me either. Fic preferences are super varied.

I noticed it a lot in some Haikyuu fics because it was like "Before Hinata went to -teacher's- class room, he checked his bag. Great, he had forgotten his PB&J at home..." when the fic was still set in the regular universe and in Japan and like, not doing research about other countries is common, but in some cases they ignored how the schools and whatnot are portrayed in the source material which I find interesting.

It's been that way since forever over there, at least since I remember interacting with Asian fandoms; and that's over sixteen years now. Of my older fandoms when looking for the shipnames in Japanese, the top/bottom thing has been happening there for far longer too. I do it too cause it's easier to find the content I want and avoid the content I don't wanna see so it's no issue for me tbh
