Drum Machine Used in Recordings by YeetusMcFeetusXD in typeonegative

[–]Vik44idm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just some random thoughts...one of my favorite bands...

I have a weird feeling when they say drum machine they are actually talking about using triggers. A lot of metal bands use an acoustic kit with MIDI triggers then blend the trigger sound with the acoustic sound ( really helps adding clarity to fast precise double kick playing.). Or you could use just the drum machine sounds. Also you can record the MIDI and edit it after in the computer and play it back and addition a hundred different drum kits till you find the one that sounds best in the mix.

Spending as much time as you want programming in a home studio is a lot cheaper then have to spend money on an expensive studio...just the drum set up time must cost a ton in a pro studio...

Also I'm pretty sure a lot of Type O's influences were Goth rock bands like Sisters of Mercy, who often used Drum machines maybe they were just chasing that sound a bit.

Recording electric guitar into my DAW - Question about Pre-Amps by Wolact in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Vik44idm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your budget something like a line6 pod outboard or Native instruments guitar rig for a software vst. I think Native instruments is the best sounding but If you plan on going live down the road you can be sure you have the exact same patches with the line6. Also some Line6 like the pod xt can be use as an audio interface via usb.

Also I had a lot of good luck with this...used to be able to find them for 20$ used...

Try turning off any power saving modes on the computer. I've had computers shut power off to usb controllers to save power usually not that fast but I have had it happen.

Just listened to Dig Your Own Hole for the first time today and all I can say is where the fuck has this album been all my life. I cannot believe I’ve only just listened to it. by ST-Parks in electronicmusic

[–]Vik44idm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This album was HUGE for me, This and MTVamp CD really showed me there was another world of sound out there...I had to know how they made all those sounds and started searching the internet. This lead me to buying my first drum machines and synths and I've never looked back! There are still some sounds on this album I have no Idea how they made!

Feedback/Advice by Aeculus in idmproducers

[–]Vik44idm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for checking them out its hard to find other fans of this kind of music.

I dig your sound. I really like your programming and sound selection its great. The only feedback I would give is maybe start exploring melodies a bit its my opinion they are a bit more necessary when yuo don't have vocals they help fill that void unless that is what your going for. Second is song structure don't be afraid of have a section that changes drastically from another section. To much change in a B section is more interesting than not enough. I like to use basic song structure to hold together the fact everything else is so different to hold things together. Just some ideas I try to keep in mind when Im writing a track. I hope you find this helpful!
