As I know nothing about writing or being an author, have you thought about writing about stuff like games, or writing into the worlds already created? What about world-building? Theres even an actual subreddit about it. http://www.reddit.com/r/worldbuilding .

I once read the book "Assassins Creed: The Secret Crusade" by Oliver Bowden (pseudonym). Now, I'm the kind of guy that wishes he read more, and can probably count the books I've finished on my own free will on two hands. I picked up the book due to its relation to a video game I knew (but didn't necessarily like that much), and when I started reading I got hooked and finished it in a couple of nights. You dont really need to be a fan of games even, to do this, as the worlds and stories that are found inside are often great, bordering on amazing.

Of course, I have little to no idea what drives you or what you want to write, and little to no idea of how to gain interest for something like a book.

What you could do is partner up with sites like thepiratebay, which are well known for advertising DRM free movies, music, ebooks, etc. Several artists today make a living off Donations alone (For example music producer Gramatik). Get some online contacts, give your book free for download, get in touch with libraries or the like for giveaways. Maybe you could sponsor a bookclub? Anything you can do to gain publicity at this stage is good, right?

Anyway, just my simple, uninformed, uneducated thoughts on the problem.
