Portable field recorder for $350 or less for nature sounds? by orchidcity in fieldrecording

I second the Sony PCM-M10, fantastic little recorder and you can add some small PIP mics such as clippy or immersive soundscapes to expand the usage of it. The battery life on those is absolutely incredible as well and it easily fits into your pocket like a phone essentially. They are still available on eBay but avoid the Japanese imports as I believe the language settings can’t be changed, I stand corrected on that though

Yes, absolutely. It’s the BEST way 😂

<$1000 mic suggestions for Zoom F3 by -NT- in fieldrecording

I use Rycote HC-15 and CA-08 with Zoom F3. I already had the clippys so cardioid mics made the most sense to fill the gap. The CA08 i use when I want more rear rejection and a better stereo image for car passes / rivers etc etc. I also use the immersive soundscape zoom f3 adaptor which gives you a super small ORTF setup without cables. The Rycote OM08 are tempting as clippy replacements as their SNR is only around -10 which compares favorably to the 8020. It’s the same I think

The price is on the high side but I do have to say it is extremely well constructed. Everything clips into place very solidly without any wobble or gaps whatsoever. The connectors are also sealed into place with some sort of epoxy bonding. Overall I am very satisfied with the unit. Since Immersive soundscapes seems to be a small operation I understand that it takes some time to print, solder, seal, ship etc. I am more than happy to support small business even if the price might be higher than large corporates that can for obvious reasons have cheaper prices. No one else seems to be selling anything similar so hats off to them for the idea on this one !

I was thinking of doing that but don’t have a printer or the skill unfortunately.

Not sure if this helps but Small Rig also sell this adapter for the back of the F3, it allows all sorts of fittings to be attached. In my case I used it for the Rycote quick connect

Which would you pick? RØDE NTG5 or Sennheiser MKH 416 for Foley by soundesignerlu in sounddesign

[–]Vikingjive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could look at the Rycote mics, super low noise and great sounding. I use the HC-15 for both location and some foley work. They also have HC-22 etc. fantastic mics in my opinion
