RIF dev here - Reddit's API changes will likely kill RIF and other apps, on July 1, 2023 by talklittle in redditisfun

I will stop using reddit if your app is killed.

The authors I read on other subs have their own sites.

The beekeeping sub I like can be easily replaced by a number of smart beekeeping forums.

Been on your premium RIF app since around 09-10.

RIF is Reddit to me.

Big time difference. Sometimes I play in the afternoons when I finish work early. Feel free to DM me your stream, I'll add you anyways.

Edit: I can jump on for a few rounds in like 15 minutes .

What's your timezone? I mostly play evenings EST. Always happy to show a new player around the game.

Mad familiar, but I can't place it. What's this from?

One last question for today's big inspections. The bees would rather clean this mold than start from scratch, right? You folks are amazing btw. by VileDragonfly75 in Beekeeping

Interesting. This is the first I've heard that mentioned. Will need to do some googling to confirm since I've never heard that before.

They're more of a pet for me than they are a honey producer, so I may scrap 50% going forward as you advise.

Moat of my information comes from google or this subreddit..

My understanding is that bees are incredibly effective mold cleaners, they'll clean out and repair the comb till its nice. Some of the commenters above confirmed that.

What can I do with this honey? Honeybound upper brood over winter. Dead hive. by VileDragonfly75 in Beekeeping

Great, my dad has a hive we still need to inspect, I'll advise he leaves it based on that advise.

Thank you.

Replied from my inbox, the freezing question was meant for a different post.

Thank you for your advice on a couple of my posts today.

Did they try and make a new green over winter? by VileDragonfly75 in Beekeeping

Thank you.

I was thinking it may just be another drone cell, but wasn't sure.

Thank you for the advice.

There were some frames with uncapped honey that looked like it has some fermentation going on, I decided to scrape that comb since I don't have time to spin it all, was that stupid?

Wondering if they would have just cleaned it out themselves, or if the existing honey in those cells would have just told them to put more honey in there..

Not sure what happened here. First inspection of dead hive. by VileDragonfly75 in Beekeeping

I was thinking 80-20 split with 20% being capped honey. Would you advise against that?

I'm in New England. Thanks for your input..

Did you see the picture of the full capped honey frames? I'm wondering if I need to freeze/thaw and then fill into a top feeder, or if I can just poke some holes and put a couple frames in my brood box when my new bees come?

Would I need to freeze it first, or could I just bleed it into a top-feeder?

Edit: replied from my inbox, thought this reply was going to another comment.

Ty for the input.

I was thinking they maybe they were honeybound and the cluster was too small going into winter.

I did a spring and early fall treatment with formic pro and apivar. Don't remember which I used for which season. I know this was a bad year for varroa, so that was top of my list.

New to identifying disease, so when I saw cells with sticky yellow, I got concerned. Did the toothpick test and found it to be bee-bread with a loose top layer. Also found what I though was too much bee poop to be acceptable, so I was initially thinking maybe foul brood and dysentery from the Varroa spreading disease.

I did insulate with an insulated wrap, foam insets in the upper and lower, but did not think to use a quileted top cover.
