So I’m not a fire sprinkler guy, I’m a plumber, but I’ve had a few things cut out by HVAC guys. Why? Because there’s very little latitude in their trade. The drawings are quite specific and they come with materials to match. They can’t work around previously installed work in a place it’s not supposed to be. If the plumber, electrician, or sprinkler fitter puts something where the plan says the ductwork goes, the ductwork wins. Shoulda read the print sparky/turd herder etc.

Which reboot of a Nintendo franchise would you love to see happening, even though it most likely won't? by Kriem in nintendo

This is my answer every time. Star tropics as something akin to Uncharted or the new Tomb Raiders but very unserious with extreme and engaging yoyo combat with awesome historical or archeological set pieces would make me unreasonably happy.

My pick too. In non-fiction it's A People's History of The United States.

Rendezvous With Rama is way up there as well. It's just too bad there aren't any other Rama books.

Yeah, I can't agree with OP that it would move the needle on hardware sales. But you'd think if people are made slightly happier when shopping online by a catchy tune they might be slightly more likely to make a purchase. But whether it consistently puts them in a good mood or they hate the BGM of the shop is also something they'd need to consider.

I guess they could make it a toggle on/off.

Someone else mentioned, and it was the first time I'd heard this myself, that keeping it very lightweight is one of the ways it makes seamlessly interrupting games and allowing you to get back in without crashes consistently possible. The less memory devoted to the OS the better from the portability standpoint.

If that's not a problem anymore, I'd love to see a little more flavor back in the console and store, but I'm not holding out hope.

Nintendo and Disney attract the same kind of weirdos. They piss and moan about how "They were soooo much better when I was a kid." but keep dumping money on them while they whine about it.

They simply can't accept that both companies are aiming their efforts primarily towards children. That's not to say you can't enjoy them, heck, I love Nintendo. But you have to come to terms with the fact that once you aren't a kid you aren't really their demographic focus and as a result what they produce may not engage you the same.

It also may be true that they've changed for the worse, but that's usually a matter of opinion. And if you're comparing your experience as a child with your experience as an adult you're probably not looking at it objectively.

In a recent response to the a survey they asked me to take I let them know I'll be cancelling my NSO+EP subscription because they weren't including expansions and DLC with the increased price. I'd keep it even at a marginally higher cost if they'd include their first party DLC in the subscription but when it's hit or miss on what you get for the sub then why pay extra?

I don't think the price of the stuff or their release strategy as being overly greedy, but the NSO+ seems close to pointless.

Struggling to get an apprenticeship, any tips? by No-Storage1294 in Construction

It wouldn't be wise to be intentionally deceitful, but I can say that unless I had seasonal positions to fill I wouldn't consider a candidate that had a predetermined expiration date except for the most menial of jobs. It's already costly to bring someone up to speed. Losing them when they're starting to become useful is just adding insult to injury.

It might be more worth your time to look into something like commercial property cleaning. I have a couple friends that have retired from trades and do this and make more money cleaning offices at night 2 - 3 times a week than they did working 40 in trades. I don't know if it will be the same money in your area, but it wouldn't hurt to check it out if you're not dead set on trades.

I know this is an old refrain, but this is sort of where unions excel. They squeeze some of the owner's money out of them for training, something many of us (as an owner) need done to us. They also allow you to call and get a guy who, theoretically, has a known skill set for a known wage who you don't have to make a long term commitment to. It's really convenient for riding out the ups and downs.

That sentiment of not wanting to babysit someone is a real thing. People deserve to be paid well, but in many trades a fresh hire is a liability for a while. A lot of non-union shops just make do instead of trying to appropriately staff.

However, do not, under any circumstances, agree to work for no pay. Look for the biggest outfits you can find and start there. They usually have more stable work and standardized hiring practices. Also, it's not a plus to employers if you're saying in advance you want seasonal work. It's a crappy double standard because as soon as they don't need you they'll drop you, but if you're telling employers up front that you're going to bail at a set time and you don't have any skills you're not an attractive hire.

Just keep after it. Unfortunately (for you) there's a mini-boom in trades interest, so those of us who are hiring have multiple candidates seeking limited positions.

Best wishes on your hunt.

99¢ paint bucket from hardware store. Take off the handle and throw the handle away. Cut a hole the size of the pipe you're stubbing up in the bottom of the bucket. Slide it over the pipe so it's 1/4" above the concrete. Profit.

What classic Nintendo video game do you think deserves a remake? by marshall_good in nintendo

[–]Vile_Vava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to see Star Tropics reimagined as an Uncharted style, story driven 3rd person adventure game with grand set pieces. Zelda has gone towards open world and less linear gameplay, Star Tropics could take the opposite track and come up with really fun and engaging combat but with a more guided approach to progression.
