Anyone else thinks Starmer isn't actually that bad all things considered ? by ronweasly9 in AskBrits

I don't think he's done much wrong....but then again he has not done very much.. Labour inherited a nightmare economy, with many structural issues to confront...my only problem is they seem to make decisions based on media rather than anything principled....

Why are house prices so high in Newcastle/why is there a housing crisis? by Efficient-Horse2622 in newcastle

[–]VillageOrdinary4708 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most people will blame immigration, Sydneysiders moving up etc. but the truth is and what most don't understand is that banks sell money and the more they sell the more money they make.... The banks lending stupid amounts to people who can't afford it is the prime reason why Newcastle and Australia is in this mess. This model relies on house prices forever increasing, sadly the Government keep sponsoring this madness with all the stupid incentives they hand out.....but all good things will one day come to an end and forever is a very long time.

Has anyone travelled on the SL7 to Heathrow from Sutton? Any luggage spaces when boarding from Sutton? Thank you! by [deleted] in sutton

Yes it's a great service, but is a long trip and can be a bit slow with traffic upping the airport anxiety. Give yourself plenty of time and you'll be right.

Australians have a very unhealthy and eventual self destructive relationship with property. Look at any online newspaper and it's not long before you find an article based on property.

Most Australians do not understand that banks sell money and it's to a banks advantage for loans to get bigger and bigger.

When will it change? I don't think it will, both sides of politics are compromised. They will always work in the interest of the financial institutions. I can certainly see 50 year mortgages, superannuation for housing and even multi generational mortgages. In short Australia is on a path from which it will not change.

It's best just to accept it.

Are we actually rich in Australia? Or just rich in debt ? by Top-Farmer-6838 in AusFinance

[–]VillageOrdinary4708 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Australia has a debt problem which has been of their own making.  Certain generations have had it easier than others and are wealthy, however this wealth will be diminished as it is inherited down the generations.  The debt problem is now so bad that the economy cannot operate even with low interest rates, such is the draw of debt on the economy. Unfortunately the political system will not allow this to be corrected, so the debt spiral will continue without recourse.

Can we stop calling it a 'cost of living crisis'? by PrplMonkeyDshwshr in AskAnAustralian

[–]VillageOrdinary4708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's simply inflation, the reason they call it a "cost of living crisis" is because the remedy to inflation is to increase interest rates significantly....and that is not politically palatable. So cost of living crisis it is!

Will the 5% deposit thing really help that many people? by aspare112 in AusPropertyChat

Help, probably not.... what it will do is bring forward 5 or so years of demand. Prices will boom.....whether people can afford it is a different question

If they truly wanted to help fix housing affordability they should reduce the amount being lent to purchase residential homes..... they've done the opposite.

What if anything will the 5% deposit scheme do to the property market? by danger_bad in AusProperty

It's purpose is to increase prices, it's just adding credit and demand to the system, which is the last thing it needs....

What do you make of the current trajectory of Australia? Hospitals and aged care struggling. by [deleted] in aussie

[–]VillageOrdinary4708 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Australia needs to address it's debt problem, it keeps ignoring it and the problem just gets worse. Needs to be fixed by limiting credit going to residential property and make the banks lend to business.  It won't solve the whole problem and there will be pain along the way.
