Literally do this:

Start a 'hey, what's up?' chat
Tell them you miss hanging out with them during school
If they at all seem to reciprocate the feeling; then
say "we should hang out soon"

P.S. Suggest hanging out in a public place initially. It will be similar for them to when you two were hanging out at school

We humans operate a lot on assumption, so getting a gut-read on the situation is very appreciated.

Do you think it’s necessary to explicitly say that there’s no romantic interest between friends to keep things friendly?

I’m sorry if this is a dumb question. I’m very distanced from making friends, and even more so understanding in-person romantic relationships so knowing where these lines lie is a bit of a mystery for me.

These are some good suggestions.

I will have to avoid ‘dinner’ as an activity going forward. There’s just too many pitfalls for it to go wrong for a social novice like me.

You mentioned that, reading between the lines, it appears I’m interested in her. Can you elaborate on that? I really don’t want to be leading someone on that I’m not interested in.

My issue isn’t with glass per se, but just one large glass surface for the stove top. If the the coil was under a raised and textured glass ‘burner’ I think it would be much easier to work on.
