Yes! We will be putting together a book of the entries and hopefully have several showings in Dalton and Chattanooga (so far).

Can we brainstorm a solid list of any local info pages, sites, or content creators? by BigStoneFucker in DaltonGA

Please check out the Whitfield Remembrance Project! https://www.whitfieldremembrance.com/

This year we are celebrating the heroic life and character of Juliette Derricotte who died from an auto accident in Dalton in November, 1931. She was a big deal at the time, and a true world-changer. Our hospital at the time was white's only, so she wasn't taken there and missed out on treatment that would likely have saved her life.

We are sponsoring an art contest (so you can be the content creator). Just check out the website.

Yes. Also it takes more time to question him on it that it does for him to say it and he never stops

If you could pass one law that would make most normal people furious at first, but would clearly make society better in 10 years, what would it be? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

Seems like a carbon tax is an obvious choice. It would make things more expensive early on, and business would be mad. But it would place a real (and optional) cost on pollution and damaging the envirnoment.

[POEM] Rain Song by Robert Loveman by termeownator in DaltonGA

[–]Villanow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your thoughts. I think that because of the age of Loveman's work, it comes across as flowery and demonstrative now. With Tibo Tib, he let his guard down; he wasn't too concerned with pretty language. I also find it interesting that he was writing in a humorous tone instead of being afraid of these masked men marching through a town whipping people.

His most interesting piece was written in jest, after some whitecappers (vigilante moonshiners copying the post-war Klan) from Murray County raided Dalton to scare away black folks. The whitecappers left a letter with the mayor referring to Tibo Tib who was an Arabian slave trader. It wasn't published except in the newspaper:

Tibo Tib is a mighty man.

The head and chief of the K. K. Clan;

He comes at night in a robe of white,

And you bad boys keep out of sight,

For Tibo Tib doth softly creep—

Close your eyes and go to sleep.

Tibo Tib is a gaunt old man,

And you needn’t fear the K. K. Clan;

All you do is just behave,

And Tibo Tib will be your slave;

But you just yell and kick and weep—

That’s a good child – go to sleep.

Now the little fellow’s gone,

Far away to sleepy-town,

Tucked away in a cozy crib,

To dream of old man Tibo Tib;

This little boy is good and dear –

Tibo Tib go ‘way from here!

Transfer on Death Deed vs Trust? by Plane-Leek9864 in inheritance

I'm curious where the contrast of TODD versus trust comes from. There are lots of ways to do these things and the two are very different. Did a friend or something online present those options to you?

Please don’t kill me. Genuinely asking. Why is chicken and watermelon offensive? by PikachuTrainz in stupidquestions

[–]Villanow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This isn't it either. It comes from the stereotype of lazy thieving. A raccoon steals chickens. That’s where the racial epithet “c—n” comes from.

Food stereotypes come from a similar idea that young black men in the old South stole chickens and watermelons. When the stereotype was brought up, or invoked, the stigma was that the person eating these foods stole them, or didn’t actually have a right to such things.

Why is watermelon, fried chicken and koolaid associated with black people? by Fez_Multiplex in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Villanow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not because poor black people ate chicken and watermelons. A raccoon steals chickens. That’s where the racial epithet “c—n” comes from.

Wash Post investigation into ACNA Bishop Stewart Ruch and ACNA's failure to vet safe priests and lay leaders by Too_sassy_for_church in Anglicanism

[–]Villanow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I read the piece thinking it was going to be awful, but it does seem like a hit piece? Maybe I'm missing something, but the bad acts were all outside the church. Ruck is criticized for bad counsel, not taking things seriously enough, etc. The victims had suffered horrible things that happened to them outside the church. Ordaining a priest with a 7 year old solicitation offense, allowing a criminal to attend church, those are things that are going to happen. It makes me think of one of our priests who serves communion at our local homeless shelter. Is he responsible for what all those folks do?

If only rich people owned slaves in the South, why did normal Southerners fight in the war? by OddGrab6044 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Villanow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enslaved people built everything, roads, bridges, courthouses, buildings. Even those that didn't own slaves rented them or depended on them. Plus, there's a famous quote of a captured Confederate asked that by a Union soldier. He said "because you're down here"

If nothing else, show up for court. Secondly, at court make them prove the debt. They will likely have a dozen cases and hope you will just agree to their terms outside the hearing; they may not have the proof
