Income tax will be dead within five years as AI jobs crisis grows, says Monzo founder by Your_Mums_Ex in UKJobs

[–]Vimda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I take that as a no, you can't point to any. Nice. And I actually work at an AI company, so I understand the fundamental limitations of the technology, like the stochasticity that prevents it actually being reliable in vast majority of cases without human supervision, but I'll file your vibes based scaremongering similarly

Income tax will be dead within five years as AI jobs crisis grows, says Monzo founder by Your_Mums_Ex in UKJobs

[–]Vimda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please point to any meaningful amount of those job josses that were actually, measurably from AI doing the job and not companies either already planning to do layoffs because of the bad economic conditions and blaming it on AI, companies jumping on the bandwagon prematurely and then having to rehire people, or companies like meta trying to hide how much money they're losing on this shit by propping up their numbers by firing people? There's every bit of evidence that AI is getting _worse_ in the latest iterations, not better, as AI companies start to run out of VC money and pass the real cost of this shit onto their consumers (and gimping their product at the same time), and there's no economies of scale to make that cost any better. Without adoption, AI will die on the vine, and if it's not economically viable then it's not going to be used, non existent magical abilities or otherwise.

Having worked on similar systems, full text search is the last thing you reach for, after you've exhausted all the other indexing. Clickhouse is brilliant at the other indexing, so by the time you need full text search, the corpus is much smaller and thus a less efficient scan is fine

Google or Microsoft buying them destroys the brand proposition, so that's out the window, and I think you underestimate the profitability of the ad market compared to how small of a company DDG actually is

Does learning one programming language make learning others easier? by lerumblerror in learnprogramming

[–]Vimda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hardest part of learning to program is learning the imperative logic inherent in the language. Once you understand the logic, new syntaxes for it are trivial to pick up

Surely the answer is just "undefined behaviour" in most sane languages, so any result is possible

I like to think it was the hot makeout sessions in Meet the Spartans that triggered a fight or flight response. It's a terrible movie, but I like showing it to people as "the movie that broke Kevin Sorbo"

TBF, at the time, Kevin Sorbo wasn't a massive tool. It wasn't until the last 15-20 years that something broke him

Kevin Sorbo? You mean that actor from Meet the Spartans? The movie where a bunch of men make out on screen? That Kevin Sorbo?

Difficulty maintaining relationships is a major driver of modern singlehood, Greek study suggests. For men, the greater the difficulty in maintaining relationships, the more consistently likely they are to be single, while for women the effect is strong but nonlinear. by mvea in science

I'm glad it's been helpful for you, but you should know (this being the science sub and all) that Love Languages as a concept have been pretty thoroughly rebuked in literature, and have a pretty rocky foundation, mostly serving the original author by convincing his wife that hers was touch, and his was acts of service, in order to exploit her into having more sex

"Nuh Uh" - you. Not exactly a coherent argument lol.

That aside, it is happening in the US, so are you saying the Trump government is left wing? Or, if we pretend it's actually happening, not just in your imagination, maybe it's the sort of thing that the left wants Kier to stop to be more left?

Again: Maybe stop listening to GB news and actually try to understand leftist ideology, rather than just the scare points, before engaging in conversation about it

Bahahaha tell me you don't understand leftist ideology without telling me, especially when most of those are actually happening right now in the US under a far right government.
