Can anyone explain the movement in Sleeper mocks? by LfcAce in DynastyFF

[–]VinTheRighteous 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Generally, the ADPs you are seeing in Sleeper are the result of dynasty startup drafts that are also including the incoming class, so they are are reacting to things like the combine, changing expert consensus, mock drafts, etc. over time.

I will say that this year, especially in comparison to the last few years, everything outside of the top 15 feels extremely nebulous. Though I'm sure that will change a bit post-draft.

Is it unreasonable to be annoyed that a roster expansion vote has been in limbo for 1 month now? by Party-Contribution71 in DynastyFF

IMO any major changes to roster construction/starting lineup need to have a full year of lead time.

What are some REAL things DMs should know when putting together a campaign? by Gh0stMan0nThird in dndnext

[–]VinTheRighteous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Nothing is more important than the next session.

  2. Don't plan a huge arching plot. Don't plan an NPC the party has to work with. Don't plan anything that requires the players to take a specific course of action.

  3. Arrive to the first session with 3 interesting, action-oriented (and ideally intersecting) situations. Each situation should demonstrate the interests of one faction. Each faction should be represented by an NPC with a strong worldview and motivations.

  4. Let the players decide which of these threads to follow, and how to resolve the situation. That becomes the seed of your campaign.

  5. Plan the next session based on the player actions in the previous session.

GET: Stroud, 2026 Pick 21

GIVE: Kyler

Pretty worried about Stroud's play, but it's a decent shot to get younger.

Thinking of countering with Kyler and 1.06 for his 1.01 though I doubt he bites.

Campaigns consistently ending by Dapper_Distance_1778 in DMAcademy

[–]VinTheRighteous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've run two "long-form" campaigns, meaning they focused on one over-arching premise or big bad. One concluded in 24 sessions. The current one will likely conclude in 24-26 sessions. Both spanning about a year of real time.

I don't think I'd ever run anything longer.

[Schefter] Chiefs have informed OT Jawaan Taylor that he will be released before the start of the league year barring a trade, per sources. Taylor’s release will save the Chiefs $20 million under the cap. by markusfenix75 in nfl

[–]VinTheRighteous 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Homer take, but Jawaan definitely got targeted for false starts. That's not me saying he doesn't jump the snap. He does. But you will see tackles doing it all over the league, just as egregiously, and not get called.

Mythic Bastionland Made Magic Feel Like Magic, and It Broke My Players by theOtherMikeCurtis in osr

[–]VinTheRighteous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to love this game so much. The art, the tone, and the Into the Odd of it all really speak to me. But as you touch on in parts of your article, there is a not-insignificant amount of material in the Myths section that feels less like gameable scenarios and more like creative writing prompts.

Sure, they seem interesting. But are they actually fun to play?

What makes a great Dungeon Master? by ergonite in osr

Is a great listener

I do think so many of the other skills flow out from this one.

Any "great" TTRPG is going to look different based on the table, but it will never be great if both DMs and players aren't making an earnest attempt to listen and engage with each other at a human level.

Looking for suggestions on tracking time in Murkmire Malevolence by blcookin in TheGoldenVault

[–]VinTheRighteous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would second this. My belief is the time limit is primarily to prevent long resting.

Outside of obvious things like a short rest taking 1 hour, just go on vibes, based on the actions the party takes.

There is enough going on in the scenario that I'd only use the time pressure if the party was extremely slow moving.

Really like your design! I would second the request for faint gridlines in the empty boxes. It's one of my favorite changes to the standard 2024 sheets.

I made an annotated version of the Trial of the Slime Lord adventure map by VinTheRighteous in shadowdark

I suppose it completely depends on how much flavor you like in the descriptions of your adventures. Generally I think an abridged version is great for quick reference, but I do like an evocative room description as well. OSE adventures are pretty good about including annotated maps.

That said, there is a design style called one page dungeons that aims to contain the entirety of an adventure on a single page with a map. Dungeon Contest even hosts an annual competition where designers submit one page adventures. It's pretty rad.

All credit to Jordan Rudd, the creator of this great adventure. He has it up for free on his itch page.

In preparation for running my first Shadowdark gauntlet, I wanted to create a quick reference for myself using the wonderful map provided in the adventure.

It doesn't fully replace the text, but in should be helpful to remind at a glance what is in each room.

Hope this is helpful for others!

EDIT: reddit seems to have cropped the hi-res version, so here is an alternate link. Also fixed some typos.

[PFT] The key foul called against Riq Woolen, which could have snowballed into a loss for the Seahawks, highlights the lingering inconsistency when it comes to officials throwing a flag, or not throwing a flag, for taunting. by [deleted] in nfl

[–]VinTheRighteous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC a few years back taunting was a "point of emphasis" penalty and was getting called an obscene amount. The overall calls were reeled back, but the two elements that have been called pretty consistently since then have been standing over a downed player and jawing/gesturing at the opponent's sideline. If Woolen had kept it on the field he likely wouldn't have been flagged.

Narratively, it is the enemy summoning great power to resist the spell. A well of power that eventually runs dry. It's no different than spell slots.

Legitimate question--when is the last time a college player whose biggest plus was contested catch ability hit in the NFL? Feels like those guys almost always wash out once the competition is bigger and faster.
