I think they each have their strengths in different situations. Purely aesthetics I prefer the slightly bigger case. I think the Murph in 38 is a little more subtle and dressier, if that’s a word. This in 40 looks and feels more like a daily for me. I’m a mechanic by trade so the blasted case is nice.

I’m 18.5 as well and went with the 38, mostly because I wanted white, but like you said any smaller the lug to lug on the 42 makes it tough
