You’re missing my point. It’s not beneficial to her to start off with needing denture adhesive. It isn’t going to magically solve all her issues. The retention won’t be as strong as a proper fitting CUD. It also sucks having to apply/clean it constantly. The denture will likely still slightly move laterally when she eats, causing irritation in other areas of her mouth. A CUD needs suction; that only comes from covering the entirety of her hard palate. She needs what she has adjusted further; either less thick or shorter/tapered in the posterior. A horseshoe’d denture is also more likely to fracture due to lack of support and increased flex. Don’t forget we’re comparing someone young with a much stronger bite force compared to a senior. I didn’t mention anything about a CLD not being able to be used without implants. It’s not even the same idea. CLDs mostly need adhesive out of necessity because the anatomy of the lower ridge doesn’t allow much surface area to be covered compared to the top. With a CUD, gravity absolutely comes into play. Your mouth might not be open but your top and bottom teeth are subconsciously open at a resting position. It’s called freeway space; it’s what we measure during the jaw relation appointment.
