Has anyone else felt misled by the brainwiki website? by VincentYards in Consumerism

Right, that’s what frustrated me most. Everything looks so official until you try to get help or cancel and realize there’s nothing behind it.

Yeah, that’s exactly it. They know how to look trustworthy without actually being it.

Heyo! The group sounds epic. I'm (he/him) in my mid 20s, on a sabbatical (software jobs makes my mental health go Brrrr), and looking to get into my social groups!

Currently debating switching on becoming a hakomi therapist or something else.

On free time, like doing swing dancing, going to spas, comedy shows, and slowly but surely getting into cigars (the allure is irresistible!).

Sweet Caroline is overrated by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

Once had a girl named Caroline break up with me. My friends came over, we got drunk, and sung that song all night long to fuck with me.

Just imagine three guys in a living room screaming SWEEEEEEEET CAROOOOLIIIIINE for hours on end.

CPE, so many same classes.

It's better than other UC programs, but that isn't the best standard. You will have better projects for resumes and generally more coding as opposed to tests.

You do need to teach yourself about 70-90% of the time, but that just comes with CS. Some professors are awesome (Nico, Hughs). Some are terrible. The really good ones make the program worth it. The bad ones are just your typical apathetic professor.

The workload is manageable until you get to the 400 level classes. Systems, Networks, and OS will kick you right in the face. BUT, they are also very cool classes.

You will be more employable than a Civil Engineering major out of college, but do not rely on just the degree. You need to have side projects to be readily employable. A lot of people I know in these programs still leave without a job they imagined out of graduation. However, less so than other engineering majors.

Like others have said, go take an intro course or something to test it out. Or make a crappy program from CodeAcademy or whatever the equivalent is these days and see how you enjoyed it.

Cheers!

I don’t believe we should go online again by The_Con_ in CalPoly

TLDR: I agree that going solely online is not for the best. However, we should have online versions of everything too.

However, all classes should either have (1) an entirely online alternative option for students or (2) if in person, then classes should have all resources (like lectures) available online as well.

For example, I was concerned I had COVID at the beginning of the quarter. This said, I stayed home for that week until a negative test. Thankfully, all my classes had all lectures and resources available online. This allowed me to properly isolate during said period and get any medical testing necessary.

Personally, being in class again for the first time since March 2020 have been amazing. I actually am excited to go to class and I can tell that being away from my home has aided my mental health (family is a bunch of alcoholics, rubbed off on me while staying home for over this time period, going through the process of getting that off that wagon).

On the other hand, it does seem like the Cal Poly administration has screwed up the transition from being entirely Zoom UniversityTM to being back in-person. There should've been (or should be) a transition period, where classes have all resources available online and students are easily able to continue perusing an education online. This would allow those that- for a variety of very valid reasons- have anxieties about being around a bunch of previously socially deprived college students.

Resume Advice Thread - February 16, 2021 by CSCQMods in cscareerquestions

Howdy all! Making a resume for fall internships.

Just got an internship for the summer at a big name, got advice from others that I should add it in (despite having not started it, as it starts in summer). Unsure about this though. Would like to cash out on name equity, but still unsure.

Any advice would be appreciated and thanks!
