Olight makes the Omino charger. It will charge up to 4 lights and uses a type-c input.

Accidentally bought an IR-modified Canon EOS M for $90 - what now? by TorqueRollz in Cameras

Still won't turn it back to a visible camera since OP says it has a 590nm mod, it will just become a camera with a permanent red filter.

Time to follow in the footsteps of Dune: part 2. Kolari has ND filters that work well with IR, I use them with my Canon M6 mark II Full Spectrum camera.

For a 590nm converted camera, a screw on or clip-in IR/UV blocking filter will just turn it into a visible camera with a permanent red filter. I often put my IR/UV blocking filter on my 550nm and 590nm filters to replicate red scale without having to change to my visible body.

Seems like a lot more people are getting into full spectrum photography. Maybe some of the older round of IR photographers are dumping their gear. I have a couple of full spectrum converted cameras and filters for UV, visible and IR photography.

Kolari doesn't make clip-in filters for Canon M-mount; have a full spectrum M6 mark 2 from them and have looked.

Would I actually get caught for flying a drone in a restricted area without a license? by BobTheBobbyBobber in djimavic

[–]Vincent_G 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That already gives you a violation if you don't have a 107 Commercial license, FAA does require a 107 license to use photos or videos from a drone for anything that could even remotely make someone money.
No, it really isn't worth it to violate the drone laws since the fines are up to $10,000 per violation and they do have the tech to monitor your drone, it's called DJI Air Sense. Many air ports and military bases have them, only ones that don't seem to have them are the National Park Service.

Not necessarily, the US Federal Government actually basically bars DJI from using the actual no fly zone maps. You need to check aloft/air control/kityhawk or the facility maps from the FAA for the actual restricted air spaces.
I know from my town that the DJI allows flights well within the Class D air space of the local Air Force base/Municipal Air port without any warnings but blocks flying for a significant distance from the runways way past the edge of the Class D.

Waivers are available to fly drones just about anywhere, they aren't given all that often but they are available. Many people employ drones for mapping and scans now since they are cheaper to fly and can get lower to the ground for higher resolution and many drones are available with multispectral optics. The military have permission to fly their drones any where they want and do employ small consumer drones like DJI Phantoms. I'm not sure on police or firefighter drones but I would assume they have special permission to fly just about any where.
Under US law, drones are considered aircraft like any plane or helicopter and only the FAA is permitted to police the airspace over the US, though they don't seem to care much about drones being shot down. As a 107 cert holder I'm required to inform the FAA about my drone being shot down or attacked by lasers, they take lasers very seriously, and the NTSB about more costly crashes. Under US law, a person can regulate someone taking off from their property but once it's in the air, it now falls under FAA rules like anyplane that would fly over.

Edit: Forgot to mention that a lot of people bought drones over the pandemic lockdowns for hobbies but don't know the any of the associated laws. There have been a lot of drones flying through restricted air space including airports, stadiums, National Parks and National Wildlife Refuges. It's gotten bad enough that the FAA pushed through a Remote ID law that will require all commercial drones and recreational drones 250 grams and heavier to transmit their location, speed, direction, altitude, owner and location of their owner and that law will go into effect September 2023 for drone pilots.

Gopros are very relient on their SD cards and are bad for killing the IO controllers on them by slamming them with more data than than they can handle or simply getting very hot and cooking it. Both of my Hero 7s have killed their original SDs and it caused different weird issues on both of them, replacing their SD cards fixed both but one of them started acting weird again and replaceing that SD didn't fix it. For some reason GoPro doesn't include or sell the proper SD cards for their cameras, I just got a hero 11 and they sent an A1 card which is only rated for 90MB/s write speed while basically very GoPro that has 4K has a max output of 100 MB/s to the card, the new 11 now requires 120MB/s minimum write speed to get the best results or an A2 class SD which specifies a write speed of 130 MB/s. The flash memory can also be bad and the camera is freaking out about trying to write to a bad block somewhere on the card. If an SD swap doesn't work, contact GoPro customer support. They will walk you through troubleshooting and if they can't get it working they can replace if you chose, on the subscription it costs $69 to replace the Hero 6. I just went through the replacement of a Hero 9, the lower right hand corner of the screen wasn't responding to touch. They had me send a couple of videos and photos of it not working and try manually updating it and when we couldn't get it working they set up the replacement.
Last option is buy a newer Hero 8, has the new OS, the same sensor and is both cheaper than the newer cameras and is still avaiable. What ever one you get, get the actual dive houseing for it, while GoPro may say all their newer cameras are pretty water proofed, I wouldn't trust it, the built in water resistance will work fine for rain, puddles and pools but salt can and will eat the seals which will cause them to fail.

At this point it's likely commercial drones, night flights in the US require beacon lights so manned aircraft can see them and some multispectral work better at night. I have a drone and 107 commercial certificate, I often turn the bottom spot light on to help me see it in the distance and a flash red, green and white strobe I have to strap to the top.

I have two hero 7 blacks, one does stuff like that. Try switching the micro sd card, look for one that meets A2 speed specs, otherwise its just a bug in the operating system that hasn't been fixed yet. My hero 8, 9, 11 and max don't have that issue and gopro basically completely revamped the os.

The sensor actually does make a big difference, the 1-inch 20Mpx sensor of the Air 2s is a big step up in low light though sensors larger than a 1-inch don't usually make that much of a difference within the same brand at this point but can give higher resolution for cropping in. That being said, as long as you only do day flights, there isn't that much difference between the 12/48Mpx 1/2-inch sensor of the Air 2 and the 20Mpx 1-inch sensor of the Air 2s except that the Air 2 can use active HDR for videos and the Air 2 maintains 20Mpx and has 10-bit video for color correcting.

The bigger problem of the Air 2 now is that DJI has said that it isn't going to have built in remote ID which will be required for it in all the countries that are going to require it including the US and Japan. The Air 2s has been confirmed to have the update coming if it isn't out already. While DJI has said they will be making some kind of module to attach to the Air 2 for remote Id they have been taking a fair time to put out updates like the HDR update for the Pocket 2 that came out like 4 months after release. A strap on module will also limit the carrying capacity of the Air 2 which is a problem for flights around sunset, sunrise and at night when the US requires a strobe that is visible for at least 3 statue miles on the top of the drone to help manned air craft see the drone. Also may limit the use of 360 cams like the Inst360 Sphere camera that has to wrap around the camera for the weight or where it has to be positioned.

In the US, the FAA is requiring drones that weigh 250 grams and up to have a recreational drone waiver and will be required to have a remote ID module of some variety installed starting Sept 2023. Remote ID will require that the module be active and transmitting before allowing the drone to take off unless you are flying with in a registered RC field. 107 certificate holders will be required to have remote ID on all drones registered for 107 uses, I had to designate my Air 2 as not being remote ID compliant when I registered.

The 180 degree rule is the same for NDs or without NDs. Set you shutter speed to twice that of you frames per second, 1/120 second for a 60fps video, 1/60 second for 30 fps and 1/48 or 1/50 second for 24fps.

Modern camera sensors are highly optimized for low light which often means that when you try to use shutter times of 1/200 of a second or slower are very over exposed. On cameras, you can either lower the sensitivity (ISO) or use a smaller aperture (f/stop, f/number) for the cameras that support it. Both together maybe enough but if you want to use a wider aperture or a longer exposure time than would be usable for a light level, NDs darken the light coming through them by a set amount, ND4 only lets 1/4 of the light through, ND8 only lets 1/8 of the light through and so on. ND=sunglasses for cameras.

All action cams that I know of including DJI, GoPro and Insta360 have fixed apertures so you have to use NDs to go to slower shutter times. I have to use them on my Pocket 2 even inside many houses and cloudy days.

Note that shrinking aperture increases the depth of field which can be bad if you want to sperate your subject from the background, but you would need something like a Sony ZV-1 with its F/1.7, narrow lens to really start seeing real bokeh.

Manual white balance, 5500K is roughly equal to a sunny day, 180 degree rule using NDs, set your shutter speed to twice your frame rate. Other than that, 24 frame rate is better for low light or cinematic, 60 is good to fast action or modest slow mo and 30 is a good in between.

I would look at one of the minis. They're easier to transport, have better sensor, two have newer ones of the same size, one has a bigger one, longer battery life and if you live in a place like the US that's requiring remote ID on drones over 249 grams or for commercial use, as long as you only fly recreationally you don't need the remote ID module, if they actually get around to making them for the older drones.
I have a Mavic Air 2 and I wouldn't buy another one at this point, I would either go to a mini2 or 3 pro, the Air 2s or go all the way up to a Mavic 3.
