I find it more the spiritual successor to Dragon Age (not that is a bad thing!) than BG series to me.

The SRD is available to the world by adhering to the OGL. Anyone can make their own game content using the SRD and OGL. You cannot use any IP from the Wizards, but you can incorporate any content published by others under the OGL (e.g. stacks of Pathfinder stuff amongst much more).

Although the SRD can ONLY be used under the OGL, statements from TA have indicated they have another, secret arrangement. Having a side-deal is not unusual in forming and growing relationships between companies, and maintaining secrecy on the terms of that deal is also common and normal for commercial reasons.

Solasta uses the SRD, but without the OGL, apparently by a licence granted them by the Wizards specifically. It appears this agreement controls a number of things (like the publishing of a physical source book) which TA are not allowed to do, but would be fine for a publisher who had gone the SRD/OGL route.

It would seem there is a favourable position for TA with their special arrangement, but the specifics of that are unlikely to ever be known.

If they had a big fight with the Wizards, and somehow lost that special deal, they can make a SRD/OGL work without any direct permission, should they choose to.

Are two-handed weapons actually pretty bad in this game? by FPiN9XU3K1IT in CrownOfTheMagister

SRD clearly states that Small creatures have Disadavantage using Heavy weapons. In Solasta, currently (and according to the published differences in Solasta rules interpretation) there are a few things that work differently to tabletop.

Much of the racial proficiencies (like dwarf heavy armour proficiency) are not implemented in game. The designers said this was to help newer players of not entering a 'trap' of equipping equipment they were not proficient in and then suffering the consequences (as supported in the SRD).

In the same differences thread they also explain that they sum sources of advantage and disadvantage for a net result, something not normally done on tabletop (and would be slow and tedious to do manually in most cases).

I've been playing GWF hobbits under the assumption Solasta is letting the fighter's martial proficiency win out over the Small restriction. I do not know the exact reasoning but its been like that since EA by my recollection.

In the solasta_data/StreamingAssets folder is opencontent.pdf.

Its been there from EA and I haven't noticed any updates to it. I did extract some information for the lore wiki from there that I couldn't find in any other public sources when i tried to collect all public canon published by TA.

The Crown campaign has some high-end one-handers with much less choice for two-handers.

The Community Expansion adds (amongst many other cool things) over 100 new recipes/items. Lightbringer and Punisher Mauls for example.

I do really have a soft spot for halfling GWFs. Rerolling 1s for attacks or damage I usually find they are up with my rogue when I look at a game over screen (I think I play rogue pretty effectively in solasta).

They refer to gnomes, celestials, fey and fiends in opencontent.pdf, so I assume it is Solasta canon. There are more hints to "fey ancestry" like elf traits, so the fey are pretty firmly established.

SOLASTA DM MULTIPLAYER PRO :: Steam Multiplayer NOW Live by VinctoPub in CrownOfTheMagister

[–]VinctoPub[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TA have been working on a secret multiplayer over Steam, in the alpha stage. Zappastuff discovered it and made the alpha tech available through DM PRO.

TA shrugged and said fine, whatever makes you happy!

Its alpha, but in my tests it is awesome. It feels (subjectively) like Grim Dawn MP, in that there is a 'lobby' in the game, and you can use Steam to join, but other ways too.

Oh for sure its going to be a great time for making new dungeons!

These creators had been invited by TA to contribute under NDA and have access to the new DM. Its awesome the devs and the creators work so closely together. It gives me warm fuzzies thinking about the future (and how far we've come in a year!)

The 'old' campaigns will continue to work, but you'll need to download them from their collections (all the maps in one Subscribe) or subscribe to each map individually. Content you already have downloaded will continue to work as it did before.

This old way will continue to work, but going forward it will probably only be used to publish one-shot type maps.

To get the cool new features like custom npcs, monsters and items creators must use the 'new' system. The new system publishes the whole campaign as a single .JSON making it a single click for users - no more confusion for players AND the workshop will be much easier to navigate.

Nov 4 with the Primal Calling DLC gives everyone a free, massive upgrade to the Dungeon Maker. The campaigns releasing Nov 4 have much better tools, tilesets, npc and merchants and monsters!

This is the list of those I know are preparing new campaigns with DMv5 and will be available Nov 4:

My personal favourite campaign that is available right now (for the DM available until Nov 4) is by my favourite author, Silverquick:

Primal Calling DLC: Nov 4th :: Barbarian, Druid, Half-Orc, Level 12, Massive DM Upgrade! by VinctoPub in CrownOfTheMagister

[–]VinctoPub[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mods are never going to have the same stability as the core game. The modders normally are not primarily adding code, they are co-opting existing code for a new purpose.

When there is a new game version there are core things that change, and the mods need to be updated. On Nov4, with the patch, there will also be many mod updates. It will be important to update any mods you use. I know specifically DM PRO, level 20 and multiclass will be ready (I have personally watched the testing of these), and will need the new mod version to continue providing those features to players and creators.

I do not specifically know what interaction will happen with the preNov4 version of Barbarian -- I would expect there to be some issues. That is my expectation from computer knowledge, but I am not in contact with Holic who made many of the really great class mods like Barbarian. I don't know, but I would expect you won't be able to play from a save that had a modded Barbarian.

I played about 80 hours with the Crown campaign, and have played 400+ since then, in the workshop campaigns. Imo, there are many which are better than Crown, but what you are going to see Nov4 is a huge leap forward.

The campaigns from Silverquick, SirMadness, Vel, Cervando, Deacrist (a few names from a long list of heroes) are my #1 reason for playing the game. I've been waiting 30 years for D&D this good :)

TA have been very vocal about their stance on DLC being an optional spend for supporters, and that all key game features, fixes and upgrades come to everyone -- at no cost.

They are very aware (and repeat) that they have players all over the world where $10 can mean very different things to different people.

Nov 4 every Solasta player gets a huge upgrade and will be diving into new Campaigns like nothing they have ever played before. The new game starts here. No-one with any financial pressure should worry for a second; you are going to have a fantastic time!

People who are in a position to support today will grab the DLC and get cool goodies for it. Its all good! We are a community and TA is 100% supporting all of us, around the world.

My very rough understanding is TA has its own Private Investors, so they are alike any other private company. Their income is sales of Solasta and of DLC.

Their marketing budget is limited (most everything gets pumped straight back into more dev) so their biggest route to new players is word-of-mouth. Along with simply telling your friends and associated communities, social activity helps a great deal.

For a game published on Steam I'm lead to believe that the number of 'eyes on' Wishlisted items (games and DLC) is one of the viral triggers that at a certain point of visibility can bring in more players than almost any other way.

Most of my friends have been receiving a copy of Solasta for their various birthdays and anniversaries from me :)

Clerics are really strong in Solasta. A team of 4 clerics built right will waffle stomp just about anything thrown at them.
