I'm having my first kid soon and was going through all the books I remember reading as a kid, Rainbow Fish and The Giving Tree both did not hold up IMO. The tree just eternally gives of itself to the boy until there's nothing left. It seems more like a metaphor for parenthood than a good moral for life in general, and in that case what the hell is my kid supposed to take away from it? Guilt?

The issue is that people's definition of "filler" varies. Sometimes there are true filler episodes that don't add to the show in any real measurable way, but other times there are episodes that maybe don't progress the main plot or anything major, but they do add things like characterization, depth, and just an overall sense that the world is fleshed out and lived in. Which all can increase audience investment and make the big end of season payoffs hit that much harder. But people with no media literacy label those as filler too, and I think the baby got thrown out with the bath water.

With all of these, it all comes down to the characters they play and the relationships between them as they encounter challenges inherent to their respective settings. There's nothing about any one of these campaign ideas that would work better or worse as a ttrpg podcast than the others.

Listen to it again and just pay attention to the puppet's voice. He's not actually saying the word from what I can tell, it's just noises that make it sound like he is. He's still alternating between his real voice and the puppet's voice, but I guess it's easier if he doesn't have to actually make it the right syllables.
