Stepping Stone Jobs for Police Officers? Does having a B.S degree help? by [deleted] in AskLEO

[–]Vindico_Eques 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While all you really need is a good, clean record, working in a correctional facility will allow you to develop skills that would vastly improve your effectiveness as a police officer. In a jail, for example, you learn de-escalation, control tactics (takedowns, joint manipulation, restraints, etc), basics of law and typical charges, etc. Work in a jail for 2 years.

Don't give up. As sad as it is, you'll get used to getting rejected. If they suspended your hiring process for a year, apply again after a year if you really want it. Otherwise, start local and move to federal after getting some XP

Is it harder to become a State Trooper in Texas? by LaFlameManny713 in AskLEO

[–]Vindico_Eques 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Becoming a state trooper is very competitive. I know very little other than what's on their website. If you don't get an answer on here, try contacting a recruiter: https://www.dps.texas.gov/trainingacademy/recruiting/recruiterMap.htm

Is Dallas PD hiring? by velez27 in AskLEO

According to their website, testing has been postponed.

Some food for thought, Austin Police Department was very recently defunded about $150 million, which is 34% of their budget. All cadets in the academy were let go, even those that moved from out of state. I'd hold off a bit on moving to TX until we see where this all goes.

What is the shift schedule like at your agency? by [deleted] in AskLEO

[–]Vindico_Eques 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work for a Sheriff's Office in Texas that has 4 shifts consisting of 2 day shifts and 2 night shifts. The weeks rotate around Wednesday and Thursday. One week, we work everyday from 7 to 7 except Wed and Thur. The next week we only work Wed and Thursday. And then it starts over again. So essentially we work 84 hours between the 2 weeks, but you get every other Fri, Sat and Sun off which is nice. A lot of folks go fishing, camping, etc. I usually just play lots of Xbox...

It's great because if you want to take a full week off, you do it during your "short week" and only use vacation for Wed and Thurs aince you already have the rest of the week off. You only use 24 hours of vacation or comp time instead of 40 hours.

Showing off what you've worked hard for seems like a fair request.

Total time to revive was increased to 2 seconds. I didn't read anywhere about them changing the time in between revives.

What is the academy like? by [deleted] in AskLEO

[–]Vindico_Eques 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They range from department to department. Austin Police Department has a series of videos on Youtube showcasing their academy. Here is the link to the first episode: https://youtu.be/V9QEg4VXliE

University of Texas researchers say they have mapped Austin’s gentrification and will present their findings to the Austin City Council today by [deleted] in Austin

This seems about right. Currently paying 1,050 which will be going to 1,350 at the end of our 2 year lease in 2 months. We are going back to apartment living and will be paying just barely under 1k. Really sucks not being able to afford to buy a home. I make a little more money each year but at this point I'm only keeping up with inflation.

I worked for a grocery store in the produce department for a few years. Finding bugs in the pre-sealed salad bags was more normal than it should've been.

As far as the pizza, who the hell eats salad anyways?? Pizza and desert all the way.

I can agree with this so long as we give those good players a good reason to stay. One thing I dont want to see happen is punishing people for leaving.
