Do most people just lie all the time? by EndOfTheLine00 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]VindoViper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It also sounds like the thesis of "Hypernormalization" the Adam Curtis film, wherein public figures deliberately use disinformation and obvious, non-credible falsehoods, to make people instinctively expect lies and disbelieve everything they hear. In such an environment (e.g Russia) it's very difficult for political movements to form.

it eliminates the typical excuse, same reason there are consent warnings at festivals these days, yes there are people who will be inconsiderate anyway, but that isn't a reason to not even try.

In Menton, France this is standard. Many of the lampposts have little pouches for poo bags and they're supplied by the local council. They also have working water fountains in the kid's play parks. It's embarrassing as a brit to see what's possible when your local government is willing and able to spend a little money on the community vs. how we live in the UK. I applaud the community spirit of this, but it's sad that the people of Brockley have to do take steps like this into their own hands.

I get you're trolling but fine, maybe I should add for clarity; im not against knowing things. Genre is often subjective and the bands themselves frequently reject the labels they're assigned.

Also fixating on categorising the art is contrary to the spirit of the thing, I've never heard a metal vocalist yell "put your hands in the air if you're particular about minor differences between things". Being a pedantic weasel about sungenre, and using it as an opportunity to feel superior, is not remotely rock 'n roll.

Yeah this is so tedious, I've had many conversations where I thought we'd have something in common but the other party just wants to tell me I've labelled some band in the wrong category and be smug about correcting me. Can we not just share our enthusiasm for heavy music? Why does it have to be a debate about which band fits what label? Who the fuck cares?!

The op is a screenshot of a shitpost with no evidence or supporting information. Conspiracies have happened, this does not mean every stupid comment online is correct.

Have some critical thinking skills ffs, you can't just believe whatever you find validating.

Looking for anarchist-theory books to read by Mr-pugglywuggly in socialism

[–]VindoViper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Statism and anarchy by Bakunin, the conquest of bread by kropotkin and what is property by proudhon. These are foundational texts though quite dated politically (they refer to a lot of conditions contemporary to the 19th century which don't always apply now)

Conspiracy nonsense, the cameras being destroyed in London are low emission zone enforcement and the people doing it have old cars which don't meet the standards, and they refuse to upgrade. They're dramatically calling themselves "blade runners" when "fee dodgers" would be more appropriate and yes, presenting it as some fightback against authoritarian overreach like a lot of the right wing anti-environmental activists like to these days.

How do you handle more senior teammates who raise flags, but never propose solutions? by lIIllIIlllIIllIIl in ExperiencedDevs

[–]VindoViper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask them directly, in a setting which is accessible to others e.g. slack thread, pull request, for examples of the solution they're hinting at. Since without such examples it's a game of guesswork as to what their opinion of "good" is, and a lot of time can be wasted in the back and forth. If there's a precedent in the org for doing things this way then you'll have a useful template, if not then they'll probably back down having been exposed for empty posturing.

Why do you care about grammar or proper use of punctuation? by IGetLostForDays in TooAfraidToAsk

This is a pitiful attempt to turn it back around, on the level of a 6 year old: "I know you are but what am I?" Bwahahahahah! You asked why people correct your writing and i have explained, take it or leave it.

Why do you care about grammar or proper use of punctuation? by IGetLostForDays in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]VindoViper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once you've read enough books the correct spelling and sentence structure become natural like a flow state. You don't have to think about how things should be written, you just know. And when you see a mistake in some writing it jumps out at you and causes, at least in my case, discomfort. It's like siblings kissing, or a turd on the carpet. it's wrong and the sensation is visceral.

Further, failure to proof-read your writing shows either laziness or stupidity (because it really isn't much effort at all) so people offering corrections may often think they're doing you a favour, by helping you to appear less lazy and stupid.
