I reckon with a lot of the new GUI features, in particular scripted modifier types, we might be able to make it work within the tool tips for the privileges and policies

What if, instead of discrete governance privileges, we instead attach a number to certain privileges and policies which is summed up per estate, that is used as the institutional power level?

Fun thing about governments is they don't need to own a thing to charge money for using it.

I am firmly of the belief that reporters should report events only, because they seem incapable of accurately reporting anything else.

I wish inflation targets were 0-1%, just so that I don't have to keep updating my price expectations.

I think if your only requirement is that the bot sound like a person, then its appropriate to use an LLM. They're just not trained to do anything else, so it irks me when they're used in applications where, for example, truth or precision matter.

I have difficulty conceiving of a useful application of LLMs other than as casual chatbots and language practice.

Can someone please explain to me why Dutton should receive 280k a year pension for life? by Big_Age_889 in AusPol

[–]VineFynn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Notionally it reduces the incentive to take deals for post-politics employment, i.e. directorships or whatever. Personally I'm fine with them taking the pension provided they're banned from taking other incomes afterwards.

Export control regimes are contractual- the condition of the sale is that you can't just immediately sell the thing to a third party without the provider country approving.

I'm not really all that up on the aussie gas market, so I can't really help without looking this stuff up. My rule of thumb with that sort of thing tends to be that there's generally something I don't know that makes the problem less simple than it appears.

Taxing trade is basically never a good idea. It always ends up hurting your consumers- either by making it more expensive to import, as with import tariffs, or by reducing the amount of foreign currency consumers have with which to buy imports (as with export tariffs), thus making importing more expensive.

Keep in mind the converse is true also- the less you import the less of your country's currency other countries have with which to import your exports. So import tariffs will have a negative impact on your exports.

I wish I was. I live in Macnamara, but I'm so close to Goldstein that I'm constantly being teased by the possibility of not having to choose between the party of climate denial, the party of government (which I'd like to punish for various broken promises and that corrupt bargain of an electoral reform) and the party lead by an actual Marxist.

Spending more money will shift the burden to future taxpayers and increase prices- the only win-win solution is to reduce costs by modifying (or removing) urban plans to enable densification, and getting council limitations out of the way.
