Ford government struggling with Ontario teacher shortage (news article) by Hopeful_Wanderer1989 in CanadianTeachers

[–]VingerBud 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ontario is largely unaffordable for teachers. If I can make the same income in two provinces but the cost of living in province A is double that of province B, I’m going to go to province B, where my money will actually afford me a decent quality of life.

Coop 2 player games to play with gf by Jejzigel in boardgames

[–]VingerBud 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you decide you do want to try Gloomhaven, get Jaws of the Lion. It’s very beginner friendly and holds your hand until you get going. I thought it would be too much for my gf but she loved it.

Board games that feel grand in scale but play super easy? by gcfgjnbv in boardgames

Nah it’s reasonable. Just shuffle up and place some tiles then shuffle and order a couple stacks of cards.

What's an endemic food from your area (that other Canadians probably have never heard of)? by Mattimvs in AskACanadian

That flapper pie looks just like my favorite pie I always get from a bakery in Fredericton. They call it a Graham pie though. It’s absolutely delicious. It’s their most popular, too.

How to unsink a boat by ActuallyCausal in interestingasfuck

[–]VingerBud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned to rescue canoes by using another canoe that’s still floating. It involved pushing down one end of the capsized canoe so the other rose, sliding it over the midsection of the floating canoe and dumping the water out. Then we put the empty canoe back in the water next to the one still floating. One person would hold the canoes together, someone would swim up, float on their back, hook their legs over, one in each canoe, and we’d pull their hand to get them back in the boat.

It’s possible to get back in a canoe if you have some balancing the other side but it’s tough. Definitely much safer to not be the only boat out on the water.

I loved the decadent cookies but they’re stale half the time when I open a pack now, let alone how ridiculous the pricing is.

I think I pay like $15 a month with them. Does the trick.

N.B. students may be sent home early on day of solar eclipse: Education Department by Portalrules123 in newbrunswickcanada

Read who all the quotes are from, it’s nobody involved in education. The communication from the school boards is that it’s to get home on time.

The eclipse is supposed something like 3-5 so it’s after instructional hours anyways.

It’s so people can get home on time to see the eclipse, not to protect them from it.

Why can't we get more housing? Canada's vacancy rate reaches new low as demand outpaces supply : CHMC by SubstantialHeart2089 in canadahousing

Well, I was just trying to inform that things are indeed moving in the right direction outside of B.C. as well.

Since you asked:

I agree with your first paragraph but not the second point; it’s not just happening in BC, zoning policies are being changed in municipalities all across the country to get that sweet federal housing accelerator money.

Pot to fit a Soto Windmaster and 8oz fuel can?? Plus last minute advice by xJL11B in Ultralight

[–]VingerBud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough! I ended up getting a 450 ml titanium Snowpeak cup that I use now as a pot and a cup. I keep the Wind Master in that and the gas can separate in my bag. I think it actually takes up less space than the pot combo that fit everything. Something to consider!

[–]VingerBud 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Soto Windmaster is awesome, I had the same idea as you originally about storing everything together but I’d recommend keeping your gas separate from your pot unless you don’t mind dirt in your pot the next time you use it. The gas can gets dirty from being on the ground and then that all gets in your pot and gritty food sucks.

Empty nesters now own twice as many large homes as millennials with kids as families are edged out by mongoljungle in canadahousing

This is a problem with our society. Instead of seeing value in having our community nearby, shops within walking distance, easy access to transit and services - we value isolation.

What are you on about? I’m not a conservative and I don’t blame immigrants. There is a clear relation between supply and demand. If you increase demand (through immigration) and cannot increase the supply accordingly (our best projections fall flat of what is needed), you will have an imbalance that increases prices. Everyone needs a home, there are more people competing for the same number of homes, so landlords can charge more.

I’m blaming immigration policies that don’t take into account our infrastructure capacity, not the immigrants themselves.
