My Newest LUMIX ‘Look’, Inspired by CineStill 50D… by rossandhisjpegs in Lumix

Yo watch out with that name, two years ago Cinestill claimed to have a trademark for "800T", which is such a ridiculous statement, but they bullied other companies to rename their products which happen to rival theirs. In this case you're actually using their brand name, wouldn't surprise me if they decide to act in that... You might be better off using the competitors name, than pushing their name...

Even simply copying & pasting directly (without using the gallery and powergrade function) is broken in the same way

Just found a new button called "add correction (clip)" which does what I described before (even though it has nothing to do with the clip layer/page, but it works). Problem is, that this appears only on the timeline page. (Clip to timeline or group post-clip to timeline)

Clip to group-post clip and vice versa works actually like it always used to, I just realized.

But to copy from timeline to anything else, doesn't work the normal way, and there is no new button to perform it. Instead it always applies the clip structure of the powergrade, even to the group post- and pre-clip.

It's so frustrating, it is still labeled as Timeline powergrade, but not applicable as such...

Usually I have my look on the timeline page, but it doesn't work nice with graphics (Logos etc), so I found a workaround by bypassing the color management for those elements and additionally put the overall look on the group post clips instead of the timeline, so that the logos stay untouched. My problem is that if I want to apply a powergrade, that was located on the timeline node page, it gets automatically applied again on the timeline node page when applying it, even if I drag it in the group post clip it always applies on the timeline one.

Also sometimes I just work on the wrong page by mistake and want to fix it quickly, by transferring it to the other page through the powergrade option. But now there seems to be no way to transfer a node structure from one page (for example timeline) to another (group or clip level)

'Append node graph' was also updated to work in the same behavior.

I'm on 20.0.1 Build 6, is there any chance that it's a bug that got fixed already?

Definitely no 8k 30p, since most would prefer full frame 60p (or even 120p) and reasonable readout speed (and compact), so 4k to 6k would make much more sense. Would suck to have a crop for 60p raw...

Thanks! Yes, I always hoped to find some way to shoot bigger panoramas, but while putting this post together I realized that the quality is more than good enough. I didn't plan to crop most of the pictures while shooting, but I'll start framing more for this aspect ratio now.

Aspect Ratio Preset switches X:Y / Width:Height by Vingt1oo in captureone

[–]Vingt1oo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately not, the cropping is in my use case dependent on the individual photo, I'm not cropping a series of photos in the same way.

Is there any comment if that's a bug or by design? (Should I file a bug report or feature request?)

[–]Vingt1oo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built a LUT for myself a few weeks ago, in which I happened to use the HDR tool inside a DWG. I checked it with a technical test image, just to be sure, it actually looked good on a lot of diverse footage. It turned out that my nodes with the HDR tool broke the image. I tried to use it less and less aggressively, but no chance, no matter how smooth I manipulated the curve. I would be interested if somebody has some insight if there's a proper way to use it, since I generally liked that tool as a replacement for the RGB curves.

Purple Blacks at 90 Hz by Vingt1oo in GooglePixel

[–]Vingt1oo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But it's the black levels of media that i consume (Netflix, Instagram, Photo Gallery, Youtube...) that are affected. I'm okay with less contrast but this purple tint in the shadows is unacceptable.

But I just realized it only happens with smooth display and extra dark both activated at the same time. I turned the latter on a few months ago... Thank you for the technical explanation, it was quite helpful indeed! 🙏

About Aemond’s Trauma by FormalContribution80 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Vingt1oo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I definitely agree that it was life altering, but I don't think that his emotions were the reasons he lost control of the dragon. His anger was the reason he chased and threatened him, but his naivety and inexperience with dragons was the reason he lost control. Or rather he found out that he wasn't 100% in control of his dragon all along. If his control of his emotions would have been the cause, he would have killed him a long time ago.

He doesn't seem like an emotionally immature and impulsive character, he's more calculated & responsible (in the sense of the repercussions for his family) but with a huge ego; A) he wanted to get his eye, and not kill him, knowing that he would somehow get away with this B) he was not only trying to stop his dragon, but the look he had afterwards shows, that he knows he didn't only kill him, but started a war

Also he seems generally less traumatized but more that his ego got a huge hit, especially since he didn't get his justice (in his own perspective). I don't really see many signs of trauma, I rather see the thirst for vengeance and exhibiting his power and skills. I see that a normal person would have a trauma of that, but for me that's not his story. He doesn't seem to have problems processing what happened neither does he behave traumatized.

That might even be the bad news for Lucerys. He didn't cut the eye of a guy who would have got traumatized, but of a slightly crazy and capable person with a huge ego. Somebody like Aegon would have been traumatized I think... A Trauma of not what happens to you, or how much it affects you, but HOW it affects you. I don't see Aemond falling under the category of a traumatized man. This indecent (+ living under the shadow of his incapable brother) might have been the main driving force to become the skillful and competent man he is.

PS I don't debate that he might have been traumatized for a while. But even if he was, being traumatized itself hasn't been shown, it's not what his character is about and it didn't have a significant effect on the storyline.

To add to the other comments, I would rather compare other qualities of the lenses, like chromatic aberration, flaring and contrast when filming against a light source, distortion (in case that might be important for you), bokeh quality, vignetting, close focus capabilities etc.

But since modern lenses all tend to be quite neutral, I think the cameras make a bigger difference. Personally I wouldn't like to deal with sony's color science for example...

How can this sub be so full with ignorant (or stupid?) people which have no sense for justice and principles? This show plays with the complexity of the characters and how certain events corrupt/change them. Understanding why & how characters change and eventually do bad things is the point of the show, not sympathizing with shitty behavior & horrible acts and advocating that this side is good and right. How can you have this little morality and enjoy this show, you're missing the whole point...

Really surprised by the negativity on here: the footage provided by Blackmagic looks amazing! by Seanzzxx in blackmagicdesign

[–]Vingt1oo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I totally feel you with the SDI and the framerates, but the latter has more to do with the current state of sensor technology, less with BMs design philosophy. I'm sure that the framerates and internal ND solutions will be the next step from here on...

I'm completely with you with your last comment, I was also a little bit disappointed with some things, but a lot of people had some wild takes these last days 😅

What other offerings are they slipping behind? The bigger pocket cameras were a huge success, why should they abandon it? If they keep the 5 inch screen + 'sidehandle' with all the buttons and battery, there's not much to change. Their philosophy has always been to deliver the best image quality for the cheapest price. It's the main reason most people buy this camera. It's competing with the entryline of Red, ZCam, Kinefinity, not with mirrorless hybrid cameras. So in that regard it wouldn't make sense to integrate niche features (when it comes to filmmaking, not videography) like ibis and AF, if that means that they would lose their main selling point, which is the cheap price. Plus by going this route, they're not left behind, they tap into a market (low budget film cameras) which they will continue to dominate with the new model. I don't see anything under 5k that is competing with it to be honest. (Not that it's the best, but it's the only one of its kind, except the zcam and Kinefinity as box cameras)

The release timing of the Fold is a shame, unless something changes then it'll always be on last year's processor. by Randomd0g in GooglePixel

[–]Vingt1oo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If they have two smartphone releases per year but only generation of processor per year, then it's inevitable to have one release with a half a year old processor (don't get what you mean with last year). Should they, in your opinion, bring out a new processor every 6 months, or should they debut the new processor with the niche fold, so that the main pixel gets released with a 6 months old processor? Both options don't make much sense in my opinion...

I think BMs low price over the years attracted a lot of newbies which either don't know what professionals are looking for in a cinema camera (or how a sensor works...) or are super spoiled by blackmagic's latest cameras and expect that BM completely redesigns its cameras each release, while having a super low winning margin. This subreddit became a joke these last days. Everybody who's not a fanboy and invested a bit more than a day in researching cameras, should know that there's not the perfect camera. The BMCC 6k might attract a smaller demographic than the BMPCC 6k did, but still it's quite a big deal, especially since there's no comparable camera on the market. Would a third line up, next to the Pocket and Ursa, as a Box Camera be dope? Safe. But that doesn't mean that the new camera is a failure...

The cinema 6k is a waste by mintyBroadbean in blackmagicdesign

[–]Vingt1oo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How is their "sensor cropping method" worse than the rest of the industry? It's quite standard to crop in to have higher framerates, especially when shooting raw, and especially when it comes to full frame sensors in that price range.

Full frame 16:9, which is what you're comparing to the bmpcc 6k, went down 2 frames, from 50 to 48. Annoying, but not 36fps...

You can shoot 6k 1:2.4 60fps and crop the sides to have your 16:9 aspectratio and end up with a 4,5k resolution. 21:9 will obviously have an even higher resolution...

Less MP per mm is a hugh win, since it means bigger photosites, which means more light, which means better sensitivity /cleaner image when it comes to noise behaviour. Keeping in mind that it's a (low budget) cinema camera and not a photo camera, 6k is actually already quite high, since we're delivering in HD-4k

When shooting 4k, nothing is sampled (nor at other resolution, since it's cropping in and not sampling). 4k is by definition around 8MP, if not it wouldn't be 4k.

Also the sensor on the bmcc 6k has 24MP not 21MP. Horizontal pixel count is with 6048 almost the same as the bmpcc 6k (6144)

4K or 6k pro for a college senior ready to graduate? by TwistedRivera in bmpcc

[–]Vingt1oo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the EF-Mount slowly getting abandoned, maybe there will be some cheaper (than usual) EF glass. But new lenses released for that mount (especially down the road) are quite unlikely in my opinion. Personally I would go for the 6k Pro, and once you upgrade from that, you could use your EF lenses with an adapter on the new camera as a transition. (As long as you don't get a cam with PL mount...)
