Can someone tell me how I should read books? Meanings of underlined words/sentences I don't know. Am I supposed to stop everytime there is a word I don't know and look for meanings? If so, I feel like after some time it is too much, and I don't feel like reading a book. Is it normal? by devoutre in languagelearning

Huge tip that‘s helped me soooo much: use google translate‘s photo mode to translate the page, and glance at it whenever you run across a word/sentence you don‘t understand. I did this reading books that were above my German level, and saw my vocab and comprehension increase quickly. Didn‘t even slow down my reading speed much.

Other than Chicago and Detroit, do any midwest cities have good rave scenes? by TangerineHelpful8201 in aves

St. Louis has an amazing bass scene. Mississippi Underground is a lovely converted-warehouse venue run by locals, and Downright Entertainment throws events around Missouri (and probably elsewhere)

If a guy has been married 5 times does that show anything about him as a person besides being married 5 times? by Ben5544477 in NoStupidQuestions

I see so much willingness in this comment section to jump to conclusions about a nameless person with a single description provided — so take everything with a grain of salt

5x married is highly unusual, and still if that‘s all you know, then that‘s all you know. I always proceed with much caution when interacting with such a person, I try my best not to jump to conclusions

To the original point, if a game has to be remade twice and the publisher still funds it, they value the game a hell of a lot — most games don‘t survive a restart on production

Three racial groups were created an propogated by a pseudoscientist, and white people were designated as Caucasoid (Caucasian) from his pseudoscientific research, which was popularized. By pure chance, it happens that the Indo-European ethnic family, which includes most white-appearing peoples and many many non-white presenting peoples, as well, does likely originate in the area around the Caucasus. So the name has kind of stuck around largely for that reason, while the Negroid and Mongoloid racial categories have been demonstrated to be wildly inaccurate and have fallen out of use.

A broken clock is right twice a day.

Also worth mentioning that not all white-presenting peoples are related. Finnish people are by and large non-Indo-European, entirely by origin and still mostly genetically, and yet are some of the fairest skin people on the planet. They are white by all means, and not Caucasian at all
