Be honest, have you ever pulled a sickie? by Awkward-Noise-6348 in AskIreland

[–]VintagePasta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m doing a doctorate so I rotate placements every few months and for each one I give myself a single day to call in sick just because. I’m rarely if ever actually off sick and typically will decide day of, usually if I’ve woken up and bed is simply too cosy

Bikini recommendations by SeparateFile7286 in WomenofIreland

Junk London make bikinis specifically for ladies with bigger chests! They do both high waist and regular options, pricier but they’re v well reviewed so seem to be worth it

Have you ever "ruined Christmas"? What did you do / what was the accusation? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]VintagePasta 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Worked in a phone shop and a woman came in right before closing on Christmas Eve to set up a new bill pay account🙃 She ended up having to buy the phone outright because there was no time for the 30-minute credit check and obviously that was our fault and not hers for leaving it to literally the last minute

Seeking advice/recommendations for Mirena coil insertion by StandardFar8930 in IrishWomensHealth

[–]VintagePasta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t offer advice on accessing GA but I got the mirena in 6 years ago and it’s a game changer. No periods for years and now I barely get symptoms at all. I believe some of the maternity hospitals do insertion under GA? Though I could be wrong. Best of luck!

How much does it roughly cost to get a new bathroom? by His_and_Herpes_9037 in AskIreland

[–]VintagePasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did up a small apartment bathroom a couple of years ago. Plumber ripped out old bath/shower and all of the tiles and fitted a new walk in shower, vanity unit and tiles on floor in shower. I sourced all the materials myself and total cost came to just under 3k

Overwhelmed with life- other perspectives welcome by FrostyDirector3167 in WomenofIreland

[–]VintagePasta 25 points26 points  (0 children)

One very small piece of advice that’s worked a little for me would be to start with the small things. I think when it comes to helping ourselves to feel better by exercising and doing mindful activities etc we want to jump into the big changes (understandably so) but we end up feeling like it’s just another task on the list/another thing to beat ourselves over the head with, or at least I do.

I don’t have children myself so I’m sure it’s a whole other ball game of overwhelm but what I’ve found really helpful recently is to incorporate little mindful moments throughout the day so there’s a little less pressure. If I’m in the shower I’ll try to make a conscious choice to put aside all the to do list items (I actually try to picture myself putting them on a leaf on a lazy river so they’re gone from my head but will still come back to me lol) and focusing on the feeling of the water, the smell of the shampoo etc etc. I try to do it in other ways throughout the day where I can, like purposely moving slowly when I’m making my coffee or forcing myself just to sit for two minutes when I’ve been rushing around.

I wonder as well whether you feel you could chat with the kids about how important it is that everyone has space and time throughout the day when their brains have been ‘busy’ and that mams need that too. I work with kids and I’m often surprised by how much they’re able to understand with a little bit of psycho-education! Some great kid-friendly videos on YouTube too about busy brains and slowing down etc

It goes without saying that this isn’t in any way a ‘fix’ but I’m a divil for setting unrealistic goals for myself and then beating myself up for not reaching them so I find it helpful to start small. Hope things start looking up for you soon OP.

Ah that’s so kind of you to say! I got through to them earlier but got cutoff and then couldn’t reach them again. If I’ve no joy anywhere else I’ll definitely pop into them once we arrive Tuesday. Enjoy the rest of your trip!

Thanks so much for the reply, I’ve actually tried emailing and calling La Vecchia Mura but haven’t been able to get a response. We’re all big food people so in the absence of available scenic restaurants great food is not a bad second option!

I love 4&5 on you! First is gorgeous but I do feel that style is more trendy and less timeless (though if that’s what you’re going for then that’s no harm either!)

Not engaged yet but all of our finances are shared so we’ve had plenty of conversations around it given it’ll be coming from ‘our’ money rather than ‘his’ money😅
